Introduction
In the exploration of the biblical qualifications to leadership in the local church body one must take an objective look at the biblical, ecclesiastical, and societal standards by which this office is made available for leadership. Krejcir who said, “Pastors are in perhaps the single most stressful and frustrating working profession, more than medical doctors, lawyers, or politicians. We found that over 70% of pastors are so stressed out and burned out that they regularly consider leaving the ministry. My Philosophy of Ministry

The first part of my philosophy of ministry is to teach believers in the knowledge and the ways of Jesus Christ. Every member in the church has gifts. They need to understand their gifts and if you have the gift to teach, be trained in the work of the ministry. Teaching God’s people to do the work of the ministry takes place through the teaching of Scripture (2 Tim. 3:16-17).…

Without Christ, there can be no Christian discipleship. Christ is the teacher, friend, leader, guide, savior and Son of God who is the central part of Christian discipleship. 1 John 5:20 says, “And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.” To be a disciple of Christ, one must acknowledge Jesus as the central part of discipleship.…

Robert M. Franklin in his adoring and avid book Crisis in the Village presents in first-person advice and constructive criticism as he identifies issues within the African-American church. Black churches face a "mission crisis" as they struggle to serve their upwardly mobile and/or established middle class "paying customers" alongside the poorest of the poor. Dr. Franklin wrote this controversial book with great scholarship as a means to awakening the state of Black American; however the question of the missions of the black church have been discussed, debated, and denied by theologians for years.…

While there are many that might fit these characteristics, a few stand out to me. Dr. Freddie Haynes of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. For more than 28 years, Pastor Freddie Haynes has been serving the Dallas area through his church Friendship-West Baptist. Growing his ministry to over 12,000 members, Dr. Haynes believes in intertwining theology with sociology to meet the needs of his members. Not only that, he shares his words of wisdom every morning of the nationally syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show, where millions are blessed by his words. He is very influential by reaching out to so many people with the gospel. Influence is one of the characteristics that make a great preacher.…

They are correct in their understanding of the necessity of a pastor to shepherd, care, protect, teach, and direct their flock. Without a shepherd, they are more easily misguided and vulnerable. It is difficult to overstate the importance of a pastor in the culture of a church. However, neither are they totally helpless without a pastor. Most people in the church have been believers and attending churches for decades and know the scriptures well enough to instruct others if they are willing. As one individual said, "We're not new to this" (I5). Why then, do we seem to put so many of our eggs in the pastor basket and act like we're clueless without a…
