Themes In A Sound Of Thunder
One main theme found in Bradbury’s story, “A Sound of Thunder,” is adventurousness. This is one of the main themes because the idea of the story is about adventure. The adventure starts when they time travel which happens on page 36 and 37. When they get to the age of the dinosaurs they have to stay on a path, but they can still see the nature back in time. Even though they have a path Eckles goes and adventures off of the path just for a little bit on page 41. These are the reasons that I think that one of the main themes is adventurousness.

Another theme in Bradbury’s story, “A Sound of Thunder,” is courage. Courage is a big part in this because in the beginning of the story, on page 36, Eckles doesn't have courage and is re-thinking

“It was not courage, exactly; the object was not valor. Rather, they were too frightened to be cowards” (pg 22). This quote perfectly embodies the view Tim O’Brien has on courage, as he eloquently demonstrates in his book The Things They Carried. Although all the characters of this novel display O’Brien’s point of view, the three shining examples of this are Norman Bowker, Jimmy Cross, and Tim O’Brien himself.…

As Eckels, the main character in Ray Bradbury’s “A Sound of Thunder,” handed the check for ten thousand dollars to the man behind the desk at Time Safari, Inc., he probably thought he was making a decision that would change everyone’s life forever. Had he considered that, he might have taken the man’s off when he said, “Your personal check’s still there. Tear it u” and never have gone on the dinosaur safari. Choosing to pay for and go on a time travel hunting safari was just the beginning of Eckels mistakes. Ray Bradbury presents Eckels as a nervous, immature, irresponsible man, whose mistakes in character cost everyone dearly.…

Courage is the ability to conquer fear or despair, a trait that all people have within; except it is only the people that perform tremendous feats or overcome the larger than life obstacles that most people notice. The people of the town of Ashton were afraid of a giant named Karl, a man that stood as high as a house. Edward Bloom came to the rescue of the townspeople and decided to confront this mean and scary monster, acting as a human sacrifice. He was able to convince the giant to leave the town for bigger and better things. Edward stepped up and became a hero; able to stand fear straight in the eye. Not only did this exemplify his bravery, but it also opened up many opportunities—his eagerness to see and conquer the outside world, to be ambitious and take the road that fewer people had traveled.…

“A Sound of Thunder” is a somewhat suspenseful story because you’re not sure what is going to happen and you don’t know if things will be the same when they come back to the present from the past. This is the act that changed the whole story of what happened when Bradbury changes one thing in the past where Eckels and his partner go kill a T- Rex. When both of the hunters arrive home, Eckels notices something out. The sign for the program that takes you back in time has changed very differently. As in every word is spelled wrong. And the look that Eckels had wasn’t very pleasing,…

What is your definition of Courage? In the story To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee, there are several themes and symbols that occur throughout the story. The one that stood out the most to me is Courage. Atticus Finch fits into the definition of what courage is and demonstrates it several times throughout the story. Attics demonstrate courage when he is explaining the definition to Jem, and when he undertakes the task of defending Tom Robinson. He knows he’s licked before he begins but he begins anyway.…

The theme that L. Frank Baum is trying to get out to his audience is that there is no place like home, in the movie The Wizard of Oz. For example, the characters that are in Dorothy's dream, represent people at home, as the audience found out toward the end of the movie. This is showing that home, or the people who represent home, are very important to Dorothy and means a lot to her, especially since they were showing up in her dream. Also, Dorothy has trouble deciding if she wants to go back home or not. Meaning, that home is important and special to her, and that even though Oz is great, Dorothy really wants to be with her family. Additionally, the scenes of Dorothy’s home are in black and white, where Oz is in color. The director probably…
