Theme Of Fear In The Most Dangerous Game
Fear
Have you ever felt enough fear that you can't think straight or act reasonably? There are many stories that have a theme of fear, because fear is important in our lives. It tells you when you are in danger. Fear is a survival tool all humans are born with. In The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford learns that fear originates from the desire to continue living, he has fear most when running from Zaroff, and deals with it by forcing himself to calm down, proving his will power. Rainsford experiences the most fear he ever has in his life, even though he lives a risky life. He only feels this much fear because, for the first time, his life is truly in danger. Rainsford learns that fear comes only when your life and well-being is threatened.

    When Rainsford first gets to Zaroff’s mansion and Ivan points the gun at Rainsford, when Zaroff hunts Rainsford, and for all the other men that Zaroff had hunted on his island.     Rainsford is a very tough person both mentally and physically. Rainsford shows his physical toughness by swimming to Ship-Trap Island. The reason why Rainsford even met Zaroff is because he fell off a yacht when he dropped his cigar and stumbled off of the boat. He was nervous so he just decided to swim until he got to land and then he remembered “A certain cool-headedness had come to him: it was not the first time he had been in a tight place.”(15). Rainsford got all the way to Ship-Trap Island and he found Zaroff’s house and that is how they met.
