A theme used often in To Kill A Mockingbird is, bravery. At some point in the novel, most
characters showed some form of bravery. Everyone needs to be brave. Bravery is very
important; and is a topic that should be covered. Below, are examples of bravery shown in To
Kill A Mockingbird.
The first example of bravery shown in To Kill A Mockingbird is, when Atticus sits in front
of the jail to protect Tom (Lee 151). He was brave to sit there, knowing he could be approached
by groups, who would try to hurt Tom. He also shows bravery by defending both himself, and
Tom. This situation can be compared to our troops going overseas, to protect our country. They
are showing a lot of bravery fighting for our country.

Her happiness still shined brightly. She was brave to
see a lot of her belongings, burnt in the fire, and gone. Miss Maudie is a great example, of
someone who is very brave; and someone who has a lot of courage.
My last example of bravery is, when Jem goes to Mrs. Dubose’s house, to read to her
(www.enotes.com). Even though it was a punishment, Jem and Scout still had a lot of bravery
to go to her house. She wasn’t very kind to Jem and Scout. Even though she wasn’t, Jem and
Scout still were brave and strong, and went to her house, so Jem could serve his punishment.
They then found out that Mrs. Dubose was brave; for she had issues going on in her life, as well.
In conclusion, a very important theme in To Kill A Mockingbird, was bravery. Many
characters in the novel, showed bravery. I think it is very much required, that everyone is brave.
Our world is so twisted, and you never know when an event, or something is going to occur.
Atticus, and Miss Maudie are both great role models, when it comes to bravery. They both
demonstrated great amounts, of being brave. Everyone should read To Kill A Mockingbird, to
really get a full look, into really what “being brave,”
