Theme Of Appearance In The Outsiders
In the novel, The Outsiders, appearance is a very important theme to the book. One example of this in the book is when the Greasers thought that the Socs had everything going great because of what they owned. Some things that made the Greasers think this was the fact that the Socs had really nice cars and they had nice clothes. The Greasers didn’t know that the Socs had some of the same problems that they did and they went through hard times just like them. Another example of appearance being an important theme is how the Greasers were judged on how they looked. They didn’t have the nicest clothes or didn’t own a flashy sports car. Often times, people thought Greasers were always trouble makers and thought they were bad kids all the time.

    The Outsiders, directed by Francis Ford Coppola was released in 1983. Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) is a greaser whose parents were killed in a car accident. He and his friends: Johnny (Ralph Macchio), Dally (Matt Dillon), Two-Bit (Emilio Estevez), and Steve (Tom Cruise), and brothers, Darry (Patrick Swayze) and Soda (Rob Lowe), are always getting in fights with a gang called the Socs.
