There was once a peasant who constantly wandered the cobbled streets. The old man would always ask for food, sustenance to keep him alive. The knights of the village were disgusted by the old sick man. So, everyday they would toss him a fish just to keep him away and everyday the man would come back for more, like a stray dog waiting to be fed. Then a day came when the knights were not there, they had left for battle. Who would feed the old man? The old man groveled for food but no one would help him. Days passed with no food and the old man began to wonder if he would die of starvation. Then one day a wealthy noble appeared in town. The old man approached the noble asking for food. He was quickly pushed away by the noble’s guards and beaten. The nobleman appeared hurt to see the old man but he went about his way, instructing one of the guards to give the old man some bread. Beaten and bloody, the old man devoured it, once again appearing to be a stray dog. The following morning, the nobleman went out for a stroll without his guards. The old man approached him yet again asking for food.
“Have you no work? Have you no home old man”, the nobleman said.
“No sir. I am too old and frail to work. No one will hire me.”
“Well have you not any skills with which to acquire food?”
“No sir. I am merely a merchant with nothing to sell.”
The nobleman swiftly began to walk away towards the forest, gesturing for the old man to follow.
Upon reaching the forest the nobleman said, “These are my private hunting grounds. I hereby grant you permission to use them.”
“But sir, I do not know how to hunt.”
The nobleman retrieved his bow and arrow that had been hanging on a nearby tree and said “This is my gift to you, a bow with which to hunt”. The noble spent the remainder of the day teaching the old man to shoot and hunt. After many failures the old man finally struck a deer.
“Now you know how to hunt
