1) Type the sentences that answer the following questions: a) A trip to the ocean can be a relaxing escape from the everyday pressures of life. b) You should always be careful to avoid overexposure to the sun at the beach.

2) List four things to look for when you’re proofreading: a) You need to check for spelling errors and make sure that all words are used in the correct context, when you are proofreading. b) As you are proofreading, you need to check for correct punctuations, and for skipped lines from previously made revisions.

3) Complete the following two steps: a) The word cliché is defined as a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought. b) You will be grounded, unless you get your act together.

4) Name and explain two types of prewriting: a) Brainstorming is the process of jotting down thoughts and ideas about a topic. b) Idea webs are used in creating lists or webs of related words and ideas, in order to organize your thoughts.

5) Write a five-sentence about how to make my favorite sandwich:
First, I gather bread, mayonnaise, spicy mustard, ham and roast beef. Next, I lay the two slices of bread on the counter. Then, I spread some mayonnaise and spicy mustard on each slice of bread. After that, I place three slices each of ham and roast beef on one of the slices of bread. Finally, I place the second slice of bread on top of the meat and enjoy.

6) Write an eight-sentence paragraph about why a high school diploma is important to my future.
A high school diploma is important for not only my future, but the futures of other students as well. Dropping out of school was one of the biggest mistakes of my life, as it is hard to find a decent paying job. A diploma will help me as I pursue my dream of attending and graduating from a good college. I will soon decide on a career, which will help me
