The Wright Brothers

The book I done my report on is titled “The Importance of the Wright Brothers”. It was published by Lucent Books and the author is Michael J. Martin. It also has 128 pages. My report will contain a general overview of the book and my own personal opinions and thoughts.

This book is about the Wrights brothers lives and what they did in them to become important. The author starts off by explaining that the idea of flight to man was preposterous and that it could not be achieved. Wilbur and Orville Wright thought differently though with their persistent and active minds. The author seems to think very highly of these two since first off he wrote this book to tell how great they are and he only says positive things about them

He chose to sleep in his hangar with his airplanes and this came to a surprise to people because he was so famous. This was the only place he could get some real privacy though is why he chose too but even then people drilled holes in the walls just to get a peek of the mastermind of flight. This made him furious, He even thought about quitting and going home to Kitty Hawk while he was in Europe. Whenever he flew he wore a distinct green cap. After this was found out thousands of these green caps called ‘Veelburs’ were sold all over France so people could be just like him most likely. More things explained in chapter 8 are how the rest of the world was catching up with the Wrights in flight from the first international air races held at Reims. Wilbur and Orville were tearing it up in Europe while showing off their knowledge and skills of aviation.

Finally, after explaining some things that occurred in this book I will tell you my thoughts and what I think the author did and didn’t do. I do think the author achieved his purpose of explaining the importance of the Wrights brothers. He tells every aspect of their life and every detail of it. For example, in chapter 1 he says that there mechanically ability was nost likely inherited by their mother. That is very important information to understand how these two got started on their path of

Before reading it I thought it would be very boring and I wouldn’t like it. After getting to read a few chapters I was very intrigued in getting to know everything about the two brothers and how they became who they are. This bool succeeded in telling me everything I wanted to know such as where they lived and when their first flight happened which was December 17, 1903.

I enjoyed this book very much. It taught me everything there was to teach about the topic. Where they grew up, what they did, and what they achieved. If one of my peers was doing a report or needed to know information on the Wright brothers, I would definitely recommend this book to them. It is filled with valuable information that is very useful.

In conclusion, I enjoyed this book very much and it taught me a lot about these two special brothers. The impression this book left me with was very moving to know that such extraordinary and special things could be done by just a pair of brothers. I want whoever is thinking about reading this book to know that it is very informational and good. It taught me a lot that I had no idea about. This author has written a very inspirational

The Wright Brothers were the ones who invented the airplane. The airplane has made huge advantages in the things that we do every day. Everyday people have a package that we miraculously transport to some other persons house. The way that we do this is by shipping, which took a long time 150 years ago mostly by train or car, mostly by an airplane. We have to thank the Wright Brothers for the ease of being able to ship things all across the world in a quarter of the time it would take without the airplane. Also they made it easier to travel wherever we want. Before we had to take a train or go by car which took days to weeks to travel to another state. Now, thanks to the invention of the airplane, we could fly across the country in 6 hours, which is so much easier than it used to be before. The airplane not only aided everyday people but also the armed forces. It aided the armed forces in fighting wars, they could attack from above. Just imagine not being able to attack from and having to fight on the ground, it is very tough. When you attack form above you get to see the whole battle field and not just 100 feet in front of you. It also allows you to survey the land before hand so you can accurately plan your battle. That is a huge advantage when it is a life or death situation such as war, which is a…

From the very first sentence in this book, I was hooked. The word choice in this sentence is superb, the vocabulary transports me to another world that could only exist centuries ago. It made me feel like I am on this journey with him verses the one reading the letter. I wanted to know about his risky endeavors that his family was worried about. Not only that but I wanted to live this journey with him. I wanted to keep reading because he seems relieved to inform his sister that everything is going well and she was wrong. But knowing how books go, I'm sure that will change.…

Though they invented the airplane, many prototypes of the airplane already existed, but none of them were controllable. The Wright Brothers’ love for airplanes started when they were little. They had recieved a rubber band powered helicopter, which was of course, uncontrollable. From there, they didn’t do much more regarding airplanes until later. The first job that the Wright Brothers had had no correlation to making airplanes, as they both worked in a print shop. As a hobby they started to fix, and create bikes out of spare parts, this hobby eventually evolved into a job for the brothers. Their time in fixing bikes resparked their love for inventing, bringing airplanes back into the picture. Creating the bikes also gave the bros experience with creating transportation…

This book was interesting to me, but I think that anyone older than I would find this book a slight bit easy, despite the fact that the author, Ester Forbes does use old English words that are no longer used. So I would recommend this book for anyone between the ages of 12-14, and strongly recommend it at that.…

Wright’s idea of himself emerged from the intense discrimination and segregation in the South. He wrote in Black Boy: “At the age of twelve, before I had had one year of formal schooling, I had a conception of life that no experience would ever erase, a predilection for what was real that no argument could ever gainsay, a sense of the world that was mine and mine alone, a notion as to what life meant that no education could ever alter, a conviction that the meaning of living came only when one was struggling to wring a meaning out of meaningless…
