The World Without Us

It is very interesting and strange to consider a world without humans. I think that it is near Impossible to know what would happen exactly. I think that The World Without Us takes on a really creative and interesting approach by showing how the world would crumble and fade without human life. He provides an interesting insight to the way life around us thrives and grows because we are on the earth.
Weisman provides an insight to how our massive infrastructure would collapse and finally vanish without human presence; what of our everyday stuff may become immortalized as fossils; why some early structures might be the last architecture left; and how plastic, bronze sculpture, radio waves, and some man-made molecules may be our most lasting gifts to the universe.
Weisman named some surprising ideas in The World Without Us that reveals how after humans disappear, floods in New York's subways would start eroding the city's foundations, and how, as the world’s cities crumble, asphalt jungles give way to real ones. I didn’t really think it was possible for anything to flourish but he how billions more birds would flourish. I think that this book was so thought out and it really made me think about our effect on the environment more than I ever have. Weisman's approach ultimately drives toward a radical but persuasive solution that doesn't depend on our demise. It is narrative nonfiction that looks at our effects on the planet in a way that I have never seen before. It surprised me how in depth and well thought out this text was. I never would have been able to see a world without humans as well as Weisman has. It is a very creative and radical view that takes from the direct and non-direct effects we have on the environment. I think ultimately Weisman concludes that without us the world would fade and vanish because the impact of human life is that great on life and non-life. After reading this text I felt that I was strangely more aware of the way human’s impact on the world and life as simple as cockroaches. It’s amazing that we are at the center of everything in a way that nothing else is. It made me feel empowered and energized knowing this. It gives you this feeling as we were created in such a special way by God and that we truly need to make use of the power and impact we have by making positive changes and choices.
