The Vital Vocab Assignment
The Vital Vocab assignment was hard to understand because of the archaic dialect and Mr. Parker’s Australian vernacular; whilst telling lousy anecdotes from his mundane life before he became a teacher. “
Your life must be really boring,” thought Ryan.
“You’re going to learn so much this year!” exclaimed Mr. Parker. In the subtext of his riveting speech, we all knew he just wanted to make students suffer. So, in a sense, he was figuratively a demon.

Colloquial language in the story “Joe Wilson’s Courtship” by henry Lawson and Baz Luhrmann’s film “Australia” portrays an interesting insight into society in the Australian outback. In Joe Wilson’s courtship’ Joe addresses Mary with typical Australian slang “’what is it Mary? I said ‘Ain’t you well? Ain’t you happy’” to give the reader a distinctively visual characterisation of the lack of education in Australian outback society. In the film “Australia” the same stereotype of an uneducated bush society is shown in the bar scene where one of the locals say “She deserves a drink just like any man”…

In our lives, we see things that are not always what we think they are. Just because we believe something to be true, does not necessarily mean it is. Just because we do not believe something, does not mean that it is not true. For example some products and advertisements make promises that we seem to fall for, especially on television. Some good examples would be Proactiv Acne Solutions, and Fast Food restaurants.…

I had a lot of trouble remembering this assignment and used the dreaded words many times whenever my parents told me to do something while I was busy I need to watch what I say and be more careful how I reply using these words only makes my parents angry and when they get angry I get aggressive to try to get them to understand me and it is of course a battle that is impossible to win for me they normally end the argument by threatening to kick me out or making me feel useless since I have yet to get a job and make it seem like I’m failing to pull my own weight. I’ve learned I am very negative and need to work on not using the dreaded words. It is very difficult not to use them I managed to go all day Saturday October 19th without using them. My parents laughed when I told them about them and said that those were pretty much my entire vocabulary. Whenever I use those words my parents get really angry with me and others tend to get annoyed and refuse to listen when I say any of the dreaded words. Lately because of these assignments I have been more careful to watch what I say or type. People I asked the questions to pointed out that I tend to be very negative and give in to stress and crack under pressure a lot. I’ve always been very polite with my neighbor’s mother, Miss Bev, so she is the only one who said “you don’t seem negative so since you said you need a percent I’d guess 10 percent.” The only time she’s seen me in a panic and cracking under pressure was October 10th when was having trouble getting an assignment done because my old laptop was unable to open any of the files that Mr. Williams or Mr. Gershman were posting that I needed to do my assignments. A lot of my fellow classmates also pointed out that I am very negative and should be more careful about using those words.…
