The Value Of Friendship In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
After reading the novel of “ Of Mice and Men ” written by John Steinbeck, I have learned to value the meaning the friendship. Throughout the novel the friendship between Lennie and George was unbelievably strong. The friendship between the two men has changed me and helps me to value friends and think more of helping them and support them.
In the story “ Of Mice and Men ” the strong bond between Lennie and George had made them very special, “Hardly none of the guys ever travel together.” (pg 39) a quote spoken by Slim as he was asking why would Lennie and George travel together ?, Slim ask this because he hard ever see guy travel around, and out in this world is very men for himself. Lennie and George had a great friendship, they always care about each other. For an example, when Lennie was drinking in water from the river he insist if Georg was thirsty too. “You drink some George. I had begun to think about how sometimes I should have behaved more like George and Lennie. Like I should sometime care about my friend more and see if there are something wrong with them. It made me act more altruistic toward my friends and sometime sacrifice something for them to make them happy, like how Lennie is offering water and ketchup to George to make him happy and also express his love and care towards him. They both had changed me to look after my friend and help them stay out of trouble like how George is helping Lennie getting out of trouble back in weed. And most of all after reading the novel, I had to thought of to help my friend even when it may affected me in the bad way, it made me think that sometime I should do something to help my friend even when it’s means to make a hard choice or doing the thing that is hard for me.
