The Use Range of Portland Cement Clinker
Portland cement (often referred to as OPC, from Ordinary Portland Cement) is the most common type of cement in general use around the world because it is a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco and most non-specialty grout. It is a fine powder produced by grinding Portland cement clinker (more than 90%), a limited amount of calcium sulfate (which controls the set time) and up to 5% minor constituents as allowed by various standards such as the European Standard EN197-1:
Portland cement clinker is a hydraulic material which shall consist of at least two-thirds by mass of calcium silicates (3 CaO•SiO2 and 2 CaO•SiO2), the remainder consisting of aluminium- and iron-containing clinker phases and other compounds. The ratio of CaO to SiO2 shall not be less than 2.0. The magnesium oxide content (MgO) shall not exceed 5.0% by mass.
(The last two requirements were already set out in the German Standard, which was issued in 1909)
ASTM C 150 defines Portland cement as "hydraulic cement (cement that not only hardens by reacting with water but also forms a water-resistant product) produced by pulverizing clinkers consisting essentially of hydraulic calcium silicates, usually containing one or more of the forms of calcium sulfate as an inter ground addition." Clinkers are nodules (diameters, 0.2-1.0 inch [5–25 mm]) of a sintered material that is produced when a raw mixture of predetermined composition is heated to high temperature. The low cost and widespread availability of the limestone, shales, and other naturally occurring materials make portland cement one of the lowest-cost materials widely used over the last century throughout the world. Concrete becomes one of the most versatile construction materials available in the world.
Cement kiln is used for making of cement clinker and there are dry and wet methods to make cement. Metallurgy chemical kiln is used in metallurgy industry and ironworks for lean iron ore, chromium ore and ferronickel ore calcimine. Rotary

The cement industry in North America has been struggling through tough times in recent years. It is hard to believe that cement volumes have fallen to their lowest levels since the 1980s. The Portland Cement Association has predicted modest growth in the US cement industry during 2011 – 12, and expects that 2013 will mark a watershed for the industry in terms of a substantive and sustained recovery in volume and company decisions to re-open in the context of harsh EPA NESHAP regulations (Maxwell-Cook 2011).…

There are five different types of cement in the dental field each is versatile in their properties, uses, and mixing techniques. Many were traditionally used for routine cementation through the nineteen ninety’s and since have been replaced by newer makeup and mixing techniques. The selection of cement for a specific procedure requires knowledge of the chemical and physical properties of each particular cement for the specific restorative process to be performed.…

For concrete is a mixture of coarse (stone or brick chips) and fine (generally sand or crushed stone) aggregates with a binder material like usually Portland cement. When mixed with a small amount of water, the cement hydrates to form microscopic opaque crystal lattices encapsulating and locking the aggregate into a rigid structure. Typical concrete mixes have high resistance to compressive stresses about 28 MPa. However, any appreciable tension (due to bending) will break the microscopic rigid lattice, resulting in cracking and separation of the concrete. For this reason, typical non-reinforced concrete must be well supported to prevent the development of tension.…

Concrete is a mixture made up of an aggregate, a binding agent and water. Typically the aggregate is gravel, sand or small stones. This is the filler that gives the final product its mass. The binding agent is what causes the mixture to set and harden. When the aggregate and binding agent are combined with water a thick mixture is created that can be poured into a form which then solidifies. In early civilization the binding agent was typically limestone powder or gypsum. The Romans discovered the use of pozzolana as a binding agent (Yegeul, n.d.). Pozzolana is a fine, sandy, volcanic ash which when used as a binding agent creates a strong durable concrete (Wikipedia, 2011, Pozzolana).…

FOREWORD This Indian Standard ( Fourth Revision ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 30 October 1989, after the draft finalized by the Cement .and Concrete Sectional Committee had been approved by the Civil Engineering Division Council. Portland slag cement is obtained by mixing, Portland cement clinker, gypsum and granulated slag in suitable proportions and grinding the mixture to get a thorough and intimate mix between the constituents. It may also be manufactured by separately grinding Portland cement clinker, gypsum and granulated slag and then mixing them intimately.. The resultant product is a cement which has physical properties similar to those of ordinary Portland cement. In addition, it has low heat of hydration and is relatively better resistant to soils and water containing excessive amounts of sulphater of alkali metals. alumina and iron, as well- as to acidic waters, and can, therefore, be ‘used for marine works with advantage. The manufacture of Portland slag cement has been developed primarily to utilize blastfumace slag, a waste product from blastfurnaces. The development of manufacture of this type of cement will considerably increase the total output of cement production in the country and will, in addition, provide a profitable use for an otherwise waste product. The slags obtained from other types of furnaces, but having identical properties as those of granulated blastfumace slag conforming to this standard, may also be used for manufacture of Portland slag cement. This standard was first published in lb53 and subsequently revised in 1962,1967 and 1976. This fourth revision incorporates…
