The Use Of History, Kuzwana, By Pawel Kuczynski

The phrase “history repeats itself” is perhaps one of the most used sayings when discussing recent events that are similar to past ones. If one was to thing about an image to describe this saying, nothing but the repetition of similar events come to mind. A prominent event was the recent slave trade discovered in Libya sharing resemblance to the more well-known Transatlantic Slave Trade from the 15th through the 19th century. Another less specific and more modern example of this are the numerous shootings taking place throughout the United States with little action taken to restrict gun laws; as soon as a community begins to recover after a catastrophic shooting, another one seems to take place causing the gun talks to once again resurface.
Pawel Kuczynski, artist of Strona Główna (Home) has recognized this in the world. Rather than showing this in words, he chose to create a piece that would justify this cycle without the use of any words. Using vivid visual aspects and his skills as an artist, Pawel Kuczynski brings the idea of cyclic repetition throughout history to life in his piece titled Strona Główna. Pawel Kuczynski is known as a satirical artist painting images poking fun at social media as well as politics and war. His fame in satirical painting forces the viewer to fully understand the picture before making any inferences. His pieces include a large signature in one of the bottom corners. Seeing more and more of these pieces creates credibility for himself and after researching more into Pawel’s background, his credibility is reinforced with the multiple awards he has received in his home country of Poland.The camera angle used in this piece is essentially a side view of the action with no variance in angles. Eventually a new leader was elected, but based on Pawel’s painting a very similar event will take place in the near future.Pawel created this painting to show how uneducated people can be. By examining some of Pawel’s other work, he seems to be strongly against ignorance caused by technology when really, it should be aiding people in learning from the past to make the world a better place. Instead, people act without thinking about the future or what will happen once their goal is completed. The question of “Now What?” seems to arise whenever a large revolution occurs. People are unhappy with the way the government is being run so the completely tear is apart with no thought about what will take its place once they have succeeded. This allows for chaos to ensue giving opportunity for a corrupt leader to take place once again. This is resembled in the wheel seen in Pawel’s painting. Due Pawel’s satirical background, the actual meaning behind this may have been overlooked by mulitple people. Because of this painting, it puts into perspective how quick people are to change without fully understanding everything behind what they are
