The Truth About Owning Cats Vs. Dogs
The Truth about Owning Cats vs. Dogs
The two most common house pets are cats and dogs. The U.S. Pet Ownership Sourcebook states that about 6% more of Americans own dogs than they own cats. Both cats and dogs make excellent pets, but an appropriate choice depends on the owner’s lifestyle, finances, and household accommodations. Firstly, cats make less of an impact on the owner’s life. While cats do enjoy the company of humans, it is not necessary for them to be watched throughout the day. A cat is trained to use a litter box which is always available to them. When owning a cat it is much easier to get someone to care for the cat when going out of town, because they require much less maintenance. However, dogs are born to be pack animals, so they should not be left alone, especially not for long periods of time. A dog is trained to go to the bathroom outside. Therefore, if the dog is left alone too long, there is a high possibility that the dog will end up going to the bathroom in the house. Another thing is that it is much more difficult to find someone to care for a dog when the owner is away. Dogs are a greater responsibility than cats.

Cat food and cat toys are less expensive than that of a dog. Cats also eat less, so the owner would have to buy new food for the cat less often than if it were a dog. The cost for health concerns and Veterinary visits for the cat are almost always less expensive, because cats have less health problems to care for. Also, a cat is less likely to damage property than a dog. On the other hand, the expenses for the dog’s food, health, and toys is greater. It is more common for a dog to have more health problems in their later years than cats, requiring the owner to spend more money on the dog. There is a greater possibility for a dog to destroy household property, which will cost more money to

For the years that we have been living we all have come to realize that dogs are more trainable than cats. Canines have been trained to care for their owners, fetch news papers and some are trained as watch dogs for the blind. Others are close in social status to a Deputy – sometimes referred to as Deputy Dogs. This is pretty remarkable to think that we have dogs that are capable of recognizing and, attacking criminals, identifying drugs and placing criminals under arrest. In most cases we have dogs that are trained to be remarkable house dogs. Dogs have been trained over the years to perform entertaining tricks such as, roll over, fetch, shake hand and even play dead. There are many dogs which have developed bad habits. Special attention and training programs have been developed to assist dogs in shaking these bad habits. These bad habits include, biting, chewing on furniture and rugs, digging holes, barking consistently without apparent reason and most of all, house soiling. Cats on the other hand belong to the feline family and are not as trainable as dogs. There is just a significant limit to their training. Yes they are able to be home trained - to prevent house soiling, but to prevent them from damaging your furniture with their claws, you basically have to clip the claws. When cats are kept as pets, they become attached to their human…

To begin with, the reason why cats are more desirable is: cats are independent and can be left unaided. Alex Libber’s article from December 10th, 2014 on petplace.com states,”But because a cat is more independent, they can be left alone for longer periods of time. Although a cat will miss you, she doesn’t depend on you to be home right at 5 p.m. for a walk. If you go for longer periods, your cat will do well with a house sitter, but she can also get by without someone feeding and checking up on her twice a day.” This shows cats are independent creatures and can be left home alone. Clearly, cats are perfectly well off being home alone, while dogs are not. Dogs need you or a house sitter to feed, walk, and take care of them.…

For years people have been disagreeing about which is better cats or dogs. I think dogs are a whole lot better. One reason I like dogs better is because dogs can work as service dogs. They are trained to assist people with physical disabilities. Tasks that service dogs can do are helping with pulling wheelchairs, opening doors, and picking up objects as small as a dime. Service dogs help the disabled. Service dogs work with people that have disabilities such as Diabetes, MS, Cancer, Autism and Epilepsy.…
