The Three Poisons In Buddhism
Religion dates back to nearly the beginning of time, religion has evolved and developed immensely over the centuries, and religion is something nearly the entire population of the world has in common. Not everyone has the same belief system but everyone has their own view on religion and their own faith. I see religion as a very important factor in society. Religion is a set of beliefs to create a better understanding of life and everything that comes along with it. Without religion, humans wouldn’t be able to comprehend life and would not be able to grasp the concept and meaning behind certain events. I believe without religion there would be chaos and if humans didn't have something to believe in they wouldn't see the point of life. Buddhism is one of the many religions that a large number of people put all of their faith into. Buddhism is an extremely powerful religion given the fact that their belief system doesn't have a god per say, they have a teacher and their job is to look within to find the answer rather than be given the answer from someone else. The three poisons are greed, anger, and ignorance (Grubin). One of the goals of Buddhism and accepting oneself is converting the three poisons into their opposites, greed would become generosity, anger would become compassion, and lastly, ignorance would be converted into wisdom (Grubin). In my experiences converting the three poisons to their opposites would make a positive impact on someone's life. If I would have grown up being full of greed, anger, and ignorance, my life would not be ideal. I wouldn't be able to be successful, happy, or even content with my life. I have always favored generosity, compassion, and wisdom over their opposites because they are traits that have the potential to create a happy lifestyle and a happy

    Middle Land Chan Monastery is a Buddhist Temple I visited in Pomona. Middle Land Chan Monastery was built in April of 2008 and was founded by Master Wei Chueh, who is also the founder of Taiwan’s famous Chung Tai Chan Monastery. Wei Chueh wanted a Buddhist temple the inland empire to broaden the Buddhist religion and wisdom. Middle land Chan Monastery welcomes any race, gender, or religion and is free to any visitor. They offer free meditation classes of all levels and age groups. They have different days throughout the week, when they teach classes in Chinese or English allowing the communities preference. The classes teach the following: history of Zen Buddhism, the four noble truths, the noble eightfold path, six perfections, emptiness and the middle way, and the principle of casualties. Once you have completed the advanced classes you can move on to the Sutra study classes which teach more in depth about the above categories. These classes are two hours long for twelve weeks. The first hour is meditating and the second hour is teachings of the Buddha. Ceremonies are also offered with reservations. All ceremonies and classes are taught by Abbess Jianxiang. Dress Code is your choice but is recommended to be comfortable and non-slippery socks. Other meditation clothing is provided if wanted. Middle land Chan Monastery is a very good place to come if you are interested in Buddhism and want to learn their ways. I enjoyed my time spent there learning their culture and feeling welcomed the entire time.…
