The short story of “The Cask of Amontillado”, can qualify as the grimmest anecdote by Edgar Allan Poe. A mystery story in which the theme of revenge takes the character to commit an atrocious murder in the person of Fortunato.The cruel revenge as part of an unmerciful punishment. However, the main character, which we know only who has been offended by Fortunato does not clarify all the reasons that led him to commit such an act of revenge, limits to just simply tell us that he has been insulted. Although it remains a mystery, throughout The Cask of Amontillado, the reason why the narrator harbors such hatred toward Fortunato, this missing information adds to the suspense and allows the reader forge a bond with the words Montresor speaks, as he cunningly guides Fortunato to his death.
