The Theme Of Love In Much Ado About Nothing By William Shakespeare
Love is described as an intense feeling of deep affection, and in the book Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare it's hard to see Claudio and Hero display love because the affection they show seems to be a physical attraction not love. Therefore, Throughout the book, Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare, Hero and Claudio do not display real love for eachother.
In theory, some people may say that there relationships replicates love at first sight, but in my opinion that cannot be true because though they hadn’t spoke a lot but they have met. We are told that Claudio looks “upon her with a soldier's eye/ That liked, but had a rougher task at hand.(8 William Shakespeare).” This shows that Claudio liked Hero, but he could not …show more content…
Their communication throughout the whole book is awful. Take for example the wedding scene (Act 4, Scene 1), the wedding was a disaster just because of small miscommunication. If Claudio was really in love with Hero the why didn’t he just go talk to her after hearing the rumours about her. Instead, he had a cow and took it out publicly at their wedding. “Would you not swear--- All of you see her---- that she were a maid, By these exterior shows? But she is none. She knows the heat of a luxurious bed. Her blush is guiltiness, not modesty. (pg. 66, William Shakespeare)” If Claudio really loved Hero he should’ve just asked her privately before the wedding about these cheating accusations. That would’ve been the mature way of handling this touching topic, but he didn't. Instead, he went on an embarrassed her, and he felt no hurt about due to the fact that he’s not in love. He was obviously hurt by the talk of her cheating because he does like her. However, if he really loved and cared for her he wouldn't of called her out in front of everyone. Yet, he continues to go on, making the situation worse, by dragging on the conversation. “Not to be married, Not to knit my soul to an approved wanton (66, William Shakespeare.)” Claudio is basically saying that Hero is no longer worth marriage.
