The Theme Of Isolation In Faulkner's A Rose

The death of Miss Emily Grierson was known to everyone in the town because she was the oldest person there. The story says that “our whole town went to her funeral; the men through a sort of respectful affection for a fallen monument, the women mostly out of curiosity to see the inside of her house” (Faulkner 133-134). Emily Grierson, decided to isolate herself from everybody after the death of her father. This is where the theme of the story comes into place, which would be isolation. As the story says in section three, the townspeople said “Poor Emily. Her kinsfolk should come to her” (Faulkner 138). The story said that she had some family in Alabama but they disagreed over what was to be done with the estate and they had not talked sense.
