The Syncretism Of Christmas
Syncretism - the combining or uniting (or attempt to) of different religions or cultures. Christianity is a leading religion today, and most of the followers don't realize they practice Pagan, or non-Christian, traditions, especially around the Christmas season. This is because of syncretism.
Some examples of Pagan traditions among the Christmas holiday are mistletoe, the tree, gift giving, Santa, stockings, and the actual Christmas Day itself. Almost anything that comes to mind when thinking about Christmas is non-Christian. Many people say, "Happy birthday Jesus!" on the 25th but little do they know nothing in the bible suggests that he was born that day. Many other traditions such as mistletoe and stockings are Roman and Greek.
