    1. Louise is the first of the two main characters shown, at the snack bar. It is noisy, crowded and fast paced. The cameraman follows her from point to point , in this way making her the center of attention and also serving to give the viewer a good view of the snack bar. On the other hand, Thelma's kitchen is quiet and she is alone. From the onset, the viewer gets an insight into the loneliness and boredom in Thelmas life. This is further confirmed when her husband comes into the scene, acting rude and unappreciative of her. Louise is the free-spirited one - this is depicted by how she is shot in different parts of the snack bar. The viewer gets the sense that she is independent. Thelma, on the other hand is in the small kitchen and her movement are limited by that space - her kitchen. Ken, her husband, comes in, and the kitchen looks even smaller - suggesting that he overwhelms her.…

One of my favorite poems is “poetry.” Poetry is a poem about poets using poetry to express themselves and not to impress anybody. She uses metaphors to show what poetry is, she says “A poem is pure energy.” These types of metaphors help the reader picture what the poems trying to say. Anna Quindlen wrote “School’s out for summer” to inform people about a problem we have in america and we do have a problem. Many people think as summer as a good thing no school, no waking up early, no more homework, but for some people summer is not the best thing for them some kids may not get to eat as much in the summer many kids eat lunch in school and even breakfast as it say in the text “fifteen million students get free or cut-rate lunches at school. And many of them get breakfast, too”. And that's just one of the problems.…

Throughout America’s communities today, the quality of schooling varies from school to school. In the book Our Kids the author, Robert Putnam, believes that the increased gap between the wealthy and poor is what causes the differences in school quality and opportunities for the students (Putnam, 2015). Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing two of today’s youth, Josh and Erin. Their names have been changed for the sake of anonymity. Josh is a 17-year-old student at Shawnee Mission East High School, in Prairie Village, Kansas.…

Whenever a conflict arises, everyone seems quick to put the blame on one person, not stopping to think how everyone might have made choices that led them to that specific situation. In “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury, the classmates ostracize Margot since they blame her for a problem that wasn’t her fault. In “Let You Down” NF, the narrator, believes that the problem is completely his fault, but he soon realizes that he isn’t the only one responsible. In both “All Summer in a Day” and “Let You Down,” we learn to that before jumping to the conclusion that one person is to blame, consider the whole picture.…

The poem “A Set of Instructions To Be Used When Reading A Poem” by Glen Colquhoun is literally as what the title says, a set of instructions of how the author believes the reader should read a poem. Contrary to the poem’s title to “read” a poem, the intent of the poem is not to give instructions on how to physically look and read the words on the paper but instruct the reader on how to interpret the meaning of the poem so that it reflects the reader’s conception of the world, life, etc. However, the instructions are not plainly given, but through a series of instructions that would make the reader question the sanity of the author. The intent of this paper is to argue that the goal of Colquhoun’s poem is to provoke readers to start interpreting…
