The Song Of Ch Un-Hyang Character Analysis
One of the themes that stood out when I was reading The Song of Ch’un-hyang was the idea that the values that a person has stands above any rules or commands that is made by those with authority. This is clearly shown in the narrative where Ch’un-hyang is punished for doing what she believes is right and staying faithful to her husband instead of obeying the orders of the magistrate to marry him. Not only are her values put to test by the magistrate but also by the way other characters talk to her. The media is a very powerful tool that can either hurt or help certain people. Sometimes it exaggerates the news of the certain topics all for attention. It can also change people ways of thinking. For example, the lives of the Yan Dandu weren’t considered part of the social norms. Kano is a popular city in Nigeria and West Africa which has a large population of an Islamic African society. The Yan Dandu makes up a huge part of that society. In Allah Made Us: Sexual Outlaws in an Islamic African City by Rudolf Pell Gaudio, he discusses the lifestyle of these people and the criticism that they receive from others. Gaudio talks about the problems of homosexuality, prostitution, usage of language, gender and sexual minorities within the group of the Yan Dandu. I believe that making the Yan Dandu known to the world through media would help others understand their differences by putting them on television, putting together a community fair and interviewing them personally.…

During the 19th century, the social structure of China positioned the masses at the bottom with relatively few people at the top. “A Madman’s Diary”, written by Lu Xun, is a Chinese story that was published in 1918 and is considered one of China’s first modern short stories. The story is comprised of a handful of diary entries written by a madman who begins to think everyone around him is a cannibal and that they are out to get him. He turns his attention to the younger generation because he is afraid that they will also be cannibalized. Xun ultimately uses madness to warn China against passing bad ideas and practices down to the next generation because of its corrupt system.…
