The Sheriff Narrative
I was a police officer for the sheriff's department. I was patrolling some dirt roads to a state park. It was a slow night. This road had tiny woods on both sides. I spotted someone jumping into the woods on the right. I only saw part of them, before they dashed out of sight. I pulled up close and shined my spot light into the direction the man went. I couldn’t see very far because the thick woods blocked my view. Unfortunately, my job was to check on things like this.
I stepped out from my car and began to search the area. I was a bit scared, ready to get back in my car ‘Crack’, I heard the sound of a branch snap from behind the tree. I pulled my gun out asking for who was ever there to come out. Someone wearing a mask stepped out from the tree. The mask was black bandana with red skulls on it. I asked him to raise his hand and move slowly towards me. He raised his hands before he stepped forward I hear the bang of a shotgun echo through the woods. I turned around gun pointed in the direction of the sound. Just then the man dashed out of site.

I ran after the guy, as I couldn’t see him any longer, but only heard the sounds of cracking and snaps that came from the brush as he ran. I reached the man as he came to a stop. I began to handcuff him when I hear more footsteps around me. I again pulled my gun out and shouted for anyone else to come out now. Two men step out from behind a tree, One had axes. I had my gun locked on him. I told him to drop the ax. He just laughed and looked to his left as another man appeared. I was being surrounded by men holding axes, bats and other forms of weapons. I needed backup. I radioed for backup but the radio on my belt couldn’t get a strong enough signal just lost of static sounds, and I was too far to use the car’s

In the Grapes of wrath, one of Steinbeck's biggest claims is that police are constantly targeting poor people and migrants that were living in poor places and that the system is unfair to unfair to them. Though things may have changed at the same time they did not. Sure police corruption and misconduct still exist, but the way people, and places are targeted hasn’t changed in the slightest bit. When it comes to making an arrest or finding crime, Police today are constantly targeting poor neighborhoods and African Americans. The system is just making it easy for them to be criminals rather than helping them turn around and change their lives.…

In Schafer's article on the Ineffective Police Leader, he describes "acts of commission as the actions or behaviors that ineffective police leaders have taken. Schafer describers "acts of omission" as the action or behaviors that should have been taken by ineffective leaders. Schafer groups the ineffective leadership habits into three categories: individual problems, occupational problems and leadership problems. His recommendations to overcome these problems include better training, such as a leader development process, instituting protocols and practices, better training and multiple potential corrective measures. My suggestions to a leader to improve labor relations would be better training and better protocols. AS Schaefer pointed…

The irony of the case centers on the sheriff’s campaign promises to return integrity to the office of sheriff. In an interview with the Palm Coast observer on October 24, 2012, while Manfre was a candidate for sheriff, he stated ““violated the public trust. … You’re not supposed to use your position to get things other people cannot get. … He’s the sheriff; … ignorance of the law is not a defense” referring to the incumbent sheriff. The demise of Donald Fleming, the previous sheriff, was due in part to a sustain ethics violation while in office. Manfre, shortly after taking office, changed the sheriff’s office mission statement to reflect the work of the office would be done with accountability, integrity and respect (Flagler Mission, 2013).…

I then hung the gun to my side and unlocked my door and opened it carefully, then the man outside my door kicked it in. the door hit me and knocked me off balance a little. I saw him pull out his hand gun it happened to be a Colt .45 model 1911 so I sprinted towards him and grabbed his hand and pointed the gun away from me. As we were struggling for supremacy over the gun he let off a round that whizzed by my head. At that moment my adrenaline kicked in at full potential and I slammed his hand against the door way viciously and repetitively until I broke the trim off around the door facing and he dropped the gun so then I kicked it away. I then brought my twelve gage into firing position and squeezed the trigger rapidly until I was completely out of ammunition.…

I pulled my beanie securely on my head as I crouched down on a sturdy tree branch. My hunting knife reflected the dim light of the moon. It glinted letting my prey know I was there. "Yeah, I love a good chase!" I jumped from branch to branch as I chase my target. His brown hair was starting to gray but he ran pretty good for someone in their late forties. At least that's what boss lady said. I jumped down quietly as the man began to get tired. He began huffing as his pace slowed. I knocked into his back sending him into a tree. His chest heavily moved with his ragged breaths. I slowly approached him as I pulled my hunting knife back out. "Let play," I said in a deadpan tone. My eyes lost their light as I stared down at him.…

As I slowly raise my hands, ready to surrender but, before the police can approach me, a loud series of bangs ring throughout the forest. Many policemen look up, trying to figure out what’s going on. I take this chance to decapitate at least ten officers around me. When I finally look up, I see at least half of the officers on the floor, dead. The other half look around in fear. When a few raise their guns at me to shoot again, an explosive goes off.…

The starry night sky filled with twinkling lights is absolutely breathtaking. I hear the flames crackle and hiss as I slowly rotate the marshmallow over the glowing embers to create the perfect golden brown color. Blood flowing out of my skull and hands. I can feel my whole head throbbing. The surges of pain continue over and over. I decide to pull strength from within to get up to check out the quad. I soon realize that the crack I heard was the snapping of the axle rod forcing the tire to be bent and rendering the quad un-drivable. Leaving the quad behind, I decided to walk back to camp. Of course I forgot my phone back at camp not planning that I would be taking a mouthful of dirt. As I walk I notice a white figure out of the corner of my eye. Since I was hurt and not sensible, my first thought was that this figure is a flesh seeking monster ready to gobble up my entire body whole. Given the fact that I actually believed that, I began to quicken my pace from a walk to a jog to a sprint. Just as I was ready to fall over and die of exhaustion, I notice an orange glow near me. This time it wasn’t a monster it was light coming from my camp’s fire. After my lengthy journey, I reached my dad and he rushed over to me baffled by my injury. With tears in my eyes, I sat down and began to regurgitate the whole experience. That night as I drift off into the abyss that was my dreams, I settled on the fact that the white figure was only the tail of a squirrel. I guess I deserved that fright given the fact that I did invade his…

My family and I lounged at a local seafood shack on the outdoor patio during our vacation to California. Starving, we eagerly awaited our food when finally the sizzling crispy fish and chips came to our table. We happily chomped down on our delicious meal. Afterward we sat there and enjoyed the views of the Pacific Ocean and the smell of the salt breeze. As I watched the tall masted sailboats serenely rock at the splintered wood dock, my eye was suddenly drawn to something moving in the water.…
