The Settlement House Movement was a movement when settlement houses were being established. Settlement houses were there to provide social services and education to the poor social services and education to the poor workers who lived there. Just like the Settlement House Movement, the Knights of Labor had similar goals. Their aims were “to secure to the worker the full enjoyment of wealth they create [and] sufficient leisure to develop their intellectual, moral, and social faculties” (Document B). Just as the Settlement House Movement was campaigning for better services towards poor middle-class workers, the Knights of labor were fighting for a better work situation for factory workers. They believed that they could eliminate conflict between labor and managements and they wanted to protect its members from employer retaliations.
