The Scooter Accident
The day seems like a giant blur to me. I remember my friends and I were playing outside and the day was reaching an end. For me, it was the end of 1st grade. My sister went back to our house on her scooter to get something. For her it was the end of 2nd grade. She was going pretty fast and the next thing I see is her scooter flipping over a crack and her landing face-first on the hard cement sidewalk. I thought it looked pretty painful, so I rushed over to see what kind of condition she was in. Before I could get to her, she rushed into our house sobbing. I said bye to my friends and went chasing after her. When I got inside I found out it was, indeed, painful. She had hit her mouth against the sidewalk, which made her bite her lip and crack one of her adult teeth. I felt bad for her, but I couldn’t help feeling relieved it wasn’t me. My mom was holding a washcloth to my sister’s mouth.

After only 5 minutes, the washcloth was drenched with blood. My mom gave my sister a new washcloth and then started frantically searching her purse for our dentist’s card. We still had our dentist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, even though we lived in Geneva, Illinois. She called the dentist immediately after she found the card and made an appointment to go see him that weekend. It was a Thursday when the accident happened and the next day, Friday, my sister was wondering what her friends would think of her scooter accident. She thought people would make fun of her because her lip got all puffy and swollen. Her half tooth looked pretty scary too. She also had some trouble speaking. She was nervous on our walk to school. During my whole school day, I wondered how my sister’s day was going. I hoped people weren’t giving her too hard of a time about it. When I met her after school, I could tell by her attempt at a smile that greeted me that everything had gone well. She said there was nothing to worry about because no one had said anything about it except, “What

I stroll back up to the clubhouse. When I am next to the kiddie pool, I hear “ouch” followed by tears. I whip around and a toddler is on the pool deck with a bloody toe. When his mother comes to console him, I escort the sobbing toddler and his mother to the clubhouse. I grab the first aid kit and latex gloves. I first put on Neosporin, which makes the child cry a little more. He starts to calm down after I place a band-aid on him. His mother thanks me for my help.…

The sky was nice and clear. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was perfect. It was a typical third grade day. My friends and I were in recess, goofing around, having fun. We sat on the benches and joked around. Next thing I knew my friend was on my back and I was carrying him around. Not aware of my surroundings, I tripped over a bench, closed my eyes, braced for impact, and fell face first into the dirt. I got up feeling dazed and the first thing I hear is a scream. Confused, I looked over to my friend and her face was a mixture of scared and shocked. I saw friends run to the restroom to get me paper towels, but others told me to go to the office. As I walked to the office, I began to feel pain in my lip. I walked into the office speechless.…

As the minutes passed, I began to get ready for what I had been anticipating- the concert of the summer. This was to be my present to my sister for her twelfth birthday- two tickets for 5 Seconds of Summer, a pop punk band that we both enjoyed.…

When I was in fifth grade (12years old) I was at a friend's house for the first time. September 11, 2001, was an emotional day for everyone. It was a month before my second birthday. I vaguely remember what happened but the one thing I do recall was sitting on my blanket and looking at the TV wondering what was happening. I was oblivious to whatever I was seeing but today I know exactly how hard it was. Once I was older my mom and dad explained to me that it was a hard day for them. This was because my dad had been at the World Trade Centers working…

We were so happy, I started explaining to her where we were, how the place looked like and that there was a big garbage can, as I explain tears dripped from my eyes. We hugged each other, cried, and stayed put right next to the garbage can. We finally saw my mother’s silver BMW car. We slowly walked towards the car, making sure that it was my mother or one of our parents are in there. I then saw my mother did something with her hand, I know what that meant to hurry up, I told my little cousins to hurry up and get in the car, we ran as fast as we could towards the car and got in. Since then my little cousins and I learned a very big and important lesson that we will never forget, it to your pacings with your family, close and to tell them that you need a break if you are losing your…

I had a neck brace around my neck and IV’s stuck all in my arms. I started to panic, I was lost, confused and scared. My best friend was there in the ambulance trying to calm me down. But still, all I could think about was the reaction of my parents when they found out what happened. Once we got to the hospital, the paramedics took me to Emergency Care. The doctors ran many tests on me: MRI’s, CAT Scans, and X-Rays, whatever test you can name – they ran on me. As I waited for my results, the doctors came in and explained to me what happened. An intoxicated driver with a gun ran the red light and hit me in a head on collision. The driver not only totaled my mother’s car but also totaled his own car too. The good thing was that he was okay. I didn’t know what to be happier about; the fact that the other driver was fine or that the accident was not my fault. Selfish right? But I’m sure if you were me at the time, you would think the same thing.…

It was almost the summer time, grass couldn’t have been greener, school was almost out, and I was so excited to return home so I could play outside. The day seemed like any other; I was picked up from school, given a snack, watched over as I did my homework, and then I was given permission to go outside. I had rushed up the stairs to change out of my uniform and get into something more comfortable. On that day, unlike any other day, my older sister, Briana, was already home, but my…
