Based on the content of the story Brother should be held responsible for Doodles death. Doodle, was the younger brother, and was born with a heart defect. He was ignored by his parents. Seeing how he was ignored his older brother felt responsible for Doodles care. Gradually Brother grew to love and care for Doodle. Brother taught him how to live a normal life, teaching him to walk, swim, and climb trees. These are skills a normal child would develop with their parents. Doodle died while running away from a storm while under his brother’s care. Does that make him a victim of his older brother?

If anything, the older brother is a victim of fate because he lost the brother he loved. He played the role of every family member in Doodle’s life because Doodle was neglected. By pressuring Doodle to learn basic life skills, like walking and talking, he showed devotion that would lead to his demise. The story made it clear that Doodle was not a child that could be left alone, and he would cry for company when he was left behind. You can see how Doodle’s death resulted from his brother running ahead as Doodle was not able to keep up due to his weak heart. Considering the circumstances it may be easy to blame Doodles older brother for putting his own needs before someone who depended on him, for guidance and direction. This selfish action could easily be interpreted as having resulted in this tragedy.

All in all, the brother should be blamed for the death of Doodle because he left him alone when doodle needed someone to help him. He should have been there to help his brother escape the storm, and was not. Brother let Doodle fend for himself, which was wrong and irresponsible of him. Doodle was not old enough to comprehend the danger he was in. Pushing other’s beyond their physical and emotional boundaries can lead to tragedy, ultimately death in this case.
