English 103 As I began to look over the contract that was distributed as a part of enrollment in this class of the spring 2014, I came across some pointers that might cause me difficulty throughout this upcoming semester. As well as difficulties I also found major strengths in which will help me benefit tasks in the future. Checking over the blue packet I found that my attention spand for focusing involvement in peer response might cause some challenging times during the semester. Also, verbal contributions are another major difficulty from past experiences. But beyond these difficulties my strength will greatly out way the negatives. I communicate great forms of writing and speaking, I read constructively, my writing and that of others. Lastly, I’m very respectful towards other students and the classroom setting and don’t agree with others that are not. Beginning in the fall of 2014 as I arrived at Onondaga Community College for my first semester of college I realized that school is full of plans, expectations and goals. Me as a student, I am very dedicated to my work and I always try my best to be the best academic student I can be. Although, I love going to school sometimes I find it difficult and have a hard time with handing all my assignments on time. Also, keeping focused on the teacher instead of the detractions around me can be hard for me at time. This is something I would like to work on greatly this semester and in the semesters that follow. As time goes on throughout my academic experiences I would like to strengthen all my weaknesses and one day become a social worker and help out others in need. Social working has always been a dream of mine, since I was a young girl I always wanted to be the one to help others that need it. I have been told by relatives, teachers and past counselors that social working would be a great field for me; they also say I am a very strong working girl with a very big heart. I would like to

I am able to help my peers by suggesting ways to improve on themselves by studying with me before a test or working together on homework problems. In addition to scholarship and leadership, I am very active in service activities outside of school. At my mother’s house, we volunteer for a dog organization and foster pit-bulls who are injured and in need of nurturing. I also go with the Williamstown Jazz Band to perform at elderly homes in order to cheer up the residents. Furthermore, I will gladly partake in school sponsored activities without delay. Because of my participation in extracurricular activities, my character has grown immensely over the past year. I have adapted to easily take critique and apply…

As one that enjoys helping others, I have to constantly remind myself change can be stressful and many times fear of the unknown can make us second guess our decisions. However, I know everything I have endured in the last couple of years will make me a better school counselor and it all will be worth it. I believe every child should have an opportunity to receive an education and if we want the world to change, we must help others succeed and receive an education. Becoming a school counselor is a life dream of mine. As an undergrad student, I completed my course work in elementary education because in the State I was living in it required you to have two years of classroom instruction in order to be a school counselor. At that time I was unable to do my student teaching because of family obligations and took my degree in another program. Now that my children are older and decisions I make in life are more about what makes me happy, I’m determined to get my degree in school counseling. Not only do I look forward to working with children and helping them with their concerns, I’m also looking forward the work days as well as the vacation days. In order to assist others we as school counselors must also take care of our well-being to, something I don’t get a chance to do that often working in social services. I look forward collaborating with everyone, learning new theories and processes to making…

    1. My main objective in terms of my career path is to work with diverse communities, specifically I would like to become a caseworker and work with immigrant and refugee communities to help them gain access to services and feel at home in their community. I think it is important that in every branch of social work there are individuals who are compassionate towards diverse populations and experience working with individuals whose first language is not English. Because of this, I am interested in pursuing a graduate degree in Clinical Social Work. My undergraduate majors are English Literature and Spanish, which at first do not seem like areas of focus which would naturally lead me into a career in social work, but honestly…

My career path that I stuck with through my ending of high school, conflicted on my values as a person because I am the type that likes to deal with the elderly care and help them the best way I can knowing that they don’t have the independence as much anymore. For me what interest me the most about the professional to have that mindset to be grateful for what I have in my life and focusing on how society works as a whole. I viewed social work to be a very open minded profession. Throughout my last year of high school I was reconsidering my career of social work because I was nervous to attended college. I wanted to wait out a year before going to college because I didn't know what it was going to be like, but I had to do what was best for me and go straight from high school to college so it wouldn’t be hard for me when i get into my young adulthood. Being surrounded in a positive environment allowed me to want to continue this career choose. Also, I was guided by my family to do the right thing because growing up seeing how hard it was for my mother I wanted her to see that I was going for a career that I would stick to. Even though I am in the program now in college it is not what I expected but the fact that I got the chance it is a real eye opener to have the experience to continue on in the…

I moved to California three years ago to pursue a Master's degree in social work at USC. During the time I have lived here, I have gained invaluable experience working full-time in the social work field. My first social work related job in California was working at an IMD step-down program for transitional aged youths and adults with dual diagnoses. From there, I began working in the Wraparound program at Aviva Family and Children's Services as a Child and Family Specialist. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with these agencies but am also very excited to begin graduate study at USC's School of Social Work since my graduate education was the reason for my move to southern California.…

December 13th 2014 was one of the best days in my life. I still recall seeing my son and family in the stands as the president of the university mentioned for the family of the graduates to stand up and be recognized. I worked so hard that year and I was able to reach my goal and I am extremely proud of myself for that. As you can see in my transcript the last year I obtained above a 3.0 GPA in every semester. I am confident that if accepted I will work hard and do everything in my power to excel to the best of my abilities. My plan to raise my GPA is to organize myself and set time every day to study and go over class material. I understand that the graduate program is more difficult but I am determined to apply myself and get the grades needed to be successful. I look forward to learning a lot more in detail about my career field. I have a great desire to help people with disabilities explore their needs, manage their symptoms, and successfully live their lives. It is important to focus on a person’s capability rather than their disability. For this reason, I hold a special connection with this program and immense passion in raising public awareness about…
