The Round House Character Analysis

Teen Development Being a teenager is one of the most challenging stages that someone goes through in life. No one can escape becoming a teenager from puberty, to acting both immature and mature, seeking independence, rebellious, these are just the basic things a teenager experience. In the book The Round House written by Louise Erdrich, a young boy name, Joe is going through this stage of becoming a teenager not only that, but he is also facing a challenge going on with his family and seeks to find justice for his mom (who got raped and almost killed). This book really portrays how a teenager like Joe is finding out who he is as an individual at the same time figuring out who was the criminal behind the case. The main things that will be focused
Teens act different when they are around their peers and when they are with their family. In the book, The Round House Joe, the main character of the story, experiences challenges in his life that forces him to act appropriately especially when he’s with his family. Joe is only thirteen years old, he displays immature and mature actions that any teen would normally act. When he’s with his friends (Cappy, Zack, and Angus), he doesn’t think before he does his actions, and he will only understand what he did wrong until it’s too late. For example, Joe and his friends went to the Round House where his mother was raped and they saw all the evidence, but ends up destroying it by drinking the beer in the cooler and crawling on top of the things that’s on the floor. It was too late for Joe to realize that those piece of evidence that he and his friends destroyed can be used in order to find the criminal that raped his mother.
