The Role Of Witches In Fairy Tales
The logic in the fairy tales such as, Snow White and Cinderella, are actually based on the tragic and horrid Salem Witch Trials. “Witches were conduits of harm who brought pain and suffering into people’s lives.” (8) Just like in sleeping beauty, the witch was often portrayed evil back then, and is also what gave that reputation of a witch. Many of the witches in the fairy tales had powers and attempted many acts of witchcraft to torment the innocent princess and her brave prince. “Either way, as powerful tormentor or as soulless pseudo human, a witch was terrifying.” (34) In the classic story Snow White the poor princess is tormented by her own stepmother, the queen.
