THE ROLE OF WAQF IN IMPROVING THE UMMAH WELFARE.

The word waqf (Awqaf) comes from a root meaning “ to prevent or restrain “. It may be define as an act of refraining from the use and disposal of any asset from which one can benefit or use its proceeds for any charitable purpose as long as it exist. In fact, the vast majority of hanafi scholars regard waqf as “taking the corpus of any property out of ownership of Allah, and dedicating its usufruct to others. Waqf may be seen as a kind of sadaqah, but what distinguishes it from sadaqah is in the case of sadaqah is transferred and also the profits but in waqf the substance is retained but the profit go to the beneficiaries of the waqf. The difference between waqf and gift is the substance is transferred from one person to another person without consideration but a waqf is for consideration the same being. Waqf must be distinguished for trust. In waqf the property is vested in Allah, while the trust it is vested in the trustee. There are five key roles and operation from historical perspective the first one is promotion of Islamic ideology through this the institution will help to promote Islamic ideology through support of mosque and activity that run in the mosque like meeting and religious dialogue. Secondly is promoting education and research under this roles waqf institutions also help extend the cause of Islamic education and research through the establishment of schools, Madrasahs and public libraries. We have evidence to support that the Waqf resources have been used not only to build a library, reading room, but also for the tribes dwelling scholars, as well as for other research activities such as the burning of copies of servicing by a professional, a centre for art and other.
