The Role Of Socialism In America
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”(Churchill, 1948) When you bring up the topic of Socialism to anyone in America, some people may get uneasy. Maybe that’s because some socialism is linked to Communism, which is linked to terrible countries and starving people, or wars fought by America. But to some people, Socialism is just the way of life they see fit. These people would want their Socialist views brought upon the people in the United States and seen as normal and right. These people are part of the American Socialist Some may ask, “What is Socialism?” and in the simplest terms and according to the Webster Dictionary, it is “a way of …show more content…
They want a new social economic order and more government control. To quote their motto directly the purpose of the socialist party is for “the creation of a new social order, a society in which the commanding value is infinite preciousness of every man, woman and child.” They basically want to create radical democracy that basically puts every person on the same level where everyone’s lives are under their own control. (Socialist Party USA ) They strive for government control , but also for the workers of America (as well as the world) to unite. 
 Some people do not like Socialists and their stances, but there is a lot of good to it. Some great things about this party and what they stand for include:Freedom and Equality, that all people will be free to develop to their fullest potential in harmony with others. They want full employment, so everyone works and everyone benefits from it. They want education for everyone and they want it to be free. Everyone can benefit from these things, so long as the people would work …show more content…
They’re great with giving rights to people, great with education and great with money for everyone. But no system of government or political party is anywhere near perfect. America would never let something like a socialist party get big. Right now they are going to stick to their Donkeys and Elephants. But there will always be people who are as far away left as you can get. The Social Democrats, The Democratic Socialists and of Course the American Socialist Party. Americans are not perfect people, and for this party to ever prevail we’d need a perfect society. Until people get that Socialism will not work out. But that wont stop people from standing up and voting for what they believe

    One example of a group that was seen as Socialist were the Knights of Labor who worked to gain rights for the workers through legislation, and also believed in Arbitration. As seen in Document F, the Knights of Labor was one of the spoons that contributed to mixing the “Labor Interest Broth.” The Knights of Labor was considered one of the groups that led to the failure of unions because there were too many unions with too many different views and they were unable to get anything accomplished. The IWW was a union chalked full of Wobblies, immigrants, blacks, and what people considered “radicals.” Document C shows that the public was accusing the unions of sucombing to communism saying that they barred a “red flag” against the United States. The IWW was full of workers who were chasing after the idea of communism, thinking that it would give them the rights that they wanted, but Document C shows that cutting open the duck to get the “golden eggs” wouldn’t show you any profit, it has to stay alive for it to lay more eggs, just like the government would have to continue the way it is for the people to gain any of the working rights that they wanted.…

There were certain factors which made conditions in Russia more susceptible to the establishment of the first communist regime such as the lack of an outlet for expression absence of representative assemblies which made anyone who thought of changing a system a revolutionary. Where parliamentary and universal suffrage were unknown as in Russia extreme revolutionary communism could strike roots, the parliamentary leaders instinctively think in terms of voters and majorities instead of classes. On founding the Russian Social-Democratic Workers, Party (1898) declared: \"The farther east we go in Europe the weaker, more abject and more cowardly becomes the bourgeoisie, and the more its cultural and political tasks fall to the lot of the proletariat.\" But inevitability of communism in Russia should not be stretched beyond this. Socialism in Russia had a long history. The debate on socialism is placed in the larger context of a cultural debate on the identity of the Russian nation. In 1939, Winston Churchill had remarked: \"it [Russia] is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma\".
