The Role Of Isolation In Gregor's Life

Isolation is the state of being alone or by oneself. If possible isolation is something that should be avoided by everyone at all costs, becauses it causes illness both mental and physical, and is a condition of many other negative impacts on yourself and those which are around you. Isolation is a common thing seen through the metamorphosis since Gregor becomes locked away in his room for extended periods of time without communicating or socializing with anyone (25). Isolation has been proven to cause numerous types of horrible diseases and can cause death in even young healthy people. For example in “How social isolation is killing us” by Dhruv Khullar, a doctor describes the condition of his sick and dying patient. He believed that one of the main causes of his poor health conditions were that he had no family, friends, or relatives to help take care of or spend time with him (Khullar). This can be compared to Gregor’s situation and how he was always in total solitude. The results of this were injuries and starvation, which ultimately lead to his death (57). In this case the sole cause for his isolation and downspiriling life was the facts that we had nobody that wanted to help him out because they were too scared and could not be accepting of his
One of the leading contributions to his total isolation was the struggles he had with his different relationships. He could no longer go to work which he loved and his family would not accept him or devote any time to him (17). The effects of this were atrocious his life only got worse by the day. One japanese man isolated himself away from his wife for 20 years and would not even mention her name. He grew apart from his kids too because he was jealous of them and the way in which she treated her. Unlike the metamorphosis when he solved the problem and talked to his wife his children were overjoyed as they finally became a family again
