The Role Of Bilbo In The Hobbit
Gandalf had many reputable reasons as to why he chose Bilbo to accompany them on their journey. “...but he is one of the best, one of the best--as fierce as a dragon in a pinch.” Gandalf states this about Bilbo in the first chapter. Being the fierce is a choice quality for anyone venturing out on their course. This helps solidify Gandalf's logic in his selection of hobbit. Gandalf also articulates that Bilbo is the best. At what, is a valid question. But,being the best at anything is and admirable quality to possess. The best leader, warrior, and decision maker all could be useful on a journey like this. Another reason Bilbo was a great leader was because of his great decision making skills.
