The Review of the book: ‘Outliers: The Story of Success’ by Malcolm Gladwell The book by Malcolm Gladwell is really a great story that might reveal the secrets of success. The author tries to understand the other possibilities of gaining success except the pure talent and innate ability. The main points of his book are the importance of hard work, the perfect timing which helps to appear at a right time in a right place. He also pays attention to such factors as various circumstances, the concept of cultural heritage and to the phenomenon of practical intelligence. The book consists of two parts. The first part contains five chapters and the general common idea of this part is ‘opportunities’. The author tries to show that sometimes circumstances might play a very important role in the live of people, the same as it does the experience. The second part of the book has a name ‘legacy’, it consists of three chapters. This is the part where the Gladwell tries to look on the success from absolutely different angle. He shifts the focus to cultural legacies that are inherited by generations from their predecessors. The very introduction of the book explains us the objectives of the author and shows that this book contains unusual ideas and requires analytical thinking. The beginning is quite unusual as it provides readers with the picturesque description of a neighborhood in Pennsylvania. This was the city of immigrants from the Roseto Valfortore. The most interesting fact about this community was an extremely low level of various heart diseases. It is obvious that doctors and researches wanted to find out the reason of such fact, but they had to be convinced to look on the health from the absolutely new perspective. In the case of that community, the reason was egalitarian ethos that was transshipped from Roseto in Italy.
