The story takes place on a rainy March day at 11:30 P.M . Andy, a 16 year old, cigarette smoker, and a member of the gang “The Royals” was stabbed ten minutes ago just below his ribs by a member of the rival gang, The Guardians. He is slowly bleeding to death on the sidewalk in a quiet alleyway somewhere in New York. As he is slowly dying, he just can not stop thinking about his girlfriend, Laura, whom he will never see again. The setting of the story is very gloomy. Also, it is raining, which, coupled with the alley, makes the story very spooky. In this story, the setting makes a huge difference to the power of the book. The author tries to create a setting as horrific as possible. The rain is the key to the story. One can imagine Andy lying on his side with blood spilling out and it being washed away by the rain, thus creating a murky red puddle. For example, if Andy was lying in a field with the sun shining brightly, the reader might not feel as frightened while reading the story. The gloominess of the setting in the story is connected to the terrible thoughts of dying Andy which had gone through his head as he lay there (pathos and pathetic fallacy) .…

Edrich uses symbolism to reveal the struggle and hardship Henry brings home from the war of Vietnam. For my song I picked Garth Brooks “The River.” I consider this song to be very meaningful. This song is about chasing your dreams and never giving up on what you believe in, reminding us that life is shorter than we think and if we just stand on the shore watching the river go by, then life will be gone before we know it. Garth Brooks uses a lot of psychological concepts in this song, such as, Attitude, Affect, Motivation, Optimism, and Behavior. Garth Brooks says, “A dream is like a river.” A dream changes, just like a river changes. As life changes, the river can be calm then strong then calm again, so our path in life change. Garth Brooks says that “He will sail his vessel until the river runs dry.” To me this mean no matter what life throws…

Over the years, we have had many fond memories, like water fights with water guns, and pushing people into the water. First, we go down to the place to rent the raft, they set up our family with two, and then we go down the river until there is a bend where they take you and your raft out. At the end of the place where you can raft, there is a little grill that we would go to for lunch.…
