The Reality Show

By jingle Mar 05, 2010 448 Words
In Christine Lee’s “A Trend Taken Too Far:The Reality of Real TV,” she goes on

the note that Survivor has opened a new page of reality television. It succeeds in

attracting and keeping viewer’s attention and interest. Christine explains that the

reality shows which were developed after Survivor are dull. In order to pull the viewer

into the show and meet people’s curiosity and gossip, some reality shows utilize

sensationalism, such as sex, horror, and violence, others use a large cash prizes to

attract viewers and get high ratings to generate advertising profits. Christine Lee

advocates “One can hope that there will be less reality TV, and viewers can return to

their familiar situational comedies and serial dramas,” But in my opinion, I think

no matter what kind of genre, situational comedies, serial dramas or reality television,

as long as the theme can give audience a positive guideline in life, it is a good TV

program.

Christine says “Before reality TV, television viewers seemed interested only in

the fictional lives of characters in situational comedies and serial dramas.” There is no

doubt that the humorous story lines in sitcom always give us exuberance. We can not

help humming the familiar melodies "Here's the story of a lovely lady …… Just sit

right back and you’ll hear a tale…..” which is the theme song of The Brady Bunch

“Cosmopolitan”, a name of cocktail, comes from the TV series Sex and the City,

Which is the heroine’s favorite. You can know how deeply the sitcom rooted among

people.
Christine writes that reality TV “relied on sensational gimmicks, the first of

these gimmicks was sex ,” but don’t you think sex and violence happen every day in

our real life? Reality TV programs present real people in live, though often

deliberately manufactured, situations and monitor their emotions and behavior. But

in all this diversity, reality TV has one appeal, which it shares with fiction–we as

viewers hope, desperately, to find something relevant to our own lives. Furthermore,

some of reality TV give positive advice. Project Runway let participants use

recycle material or something in the room to design a new cloth. Kids can learn more

information in Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? This kind of reality TV gives

people positive direction in life.

Different genre of TV program has its own advantages. The only criterion for

judging a good TV program is its contents, but not the genre. All literary productions

reflect our life. We can draw lessons from them in our reality life. The important thing

is that you should learn how to absorb the essence and discard the dross.
