Introduction: Kinetics, which is the study of how fast a reaction takes place or in other words the rate of a reaction, is the main ideology in this experiment. Reaction rates can be measured in a number of ways: by monitoring the amount of product formed, by measuring the loss in mass of reactants, for reactions involving gaseous products measuring the volume of gas produced, by electrolytic conductivity, pH measurement or for colored reactants or products measuring the transmittance by the use of a colorimeter. In this experiment the last method of measurement is used which is colorimetry.…

In the solutions A, B and C, the concentration of hydrogen peroxide used was the same. Therefore, these solutions are a suitable series for an examination of the dependence of the rate of reaction on the concentration of the iodide ion. Similarly, solutions C, D, and E have the same concentration of iodide ion. Therefore, those solutions can be used to examine the dependence of the rate of reaction on the concentration of hydrogen…

The method used for the experiment is known as method of continuous variations, also called job’s methods. Continuous Variations are a technique used for the determination of the concept of stochiometry of reactants in reaction. The way Job’s Method works is that it finds the certain ratio of two or more chemicals reacting to form a product. In this case the reacting chemicals were sodium hypochlorite and sodium thiosulfate. The stoichiometric ratio was found by using 25mL of both sodium hypochlorite and sodium thiosulfate. The experiment was then performed by trying different combinations of the reactants while recording the change in temperature to determine which combination created the biggest reaction. In this case, 6.0mL sodium thiosulfate and 19.0mL sodium hypochlorite proved to create the most reaction, resulting in a1 to 3 ratio of sodium thiosulfate to sodium hypochlorite.…

One application of the study of kinetics can be applied to the determination of the rate of a chemical reaction involving a certain selection of chemicals (FD&C Blue #1 and sodium hypochlorite). The purpose of the proceeding experiment is to make such a determination, as well as determining the rate law for the reaction by establishing the rate constant and concentrations and reactions orders of the chemicals.…

This experiment was done to determine the effects of the nature of the reactants, concentration, temperature, surface area and catalyst on the rate of chemical reactions. The nature of the reactants implies a difference if the reactants are aqueous or organic, acidic or basic or if they occur in the same phase or not. Acid-base reactions, formation of salts, and exchange of ions are fast reactions while reactions in which large molecules are formed or broken apart are usually slow. Generally, the rate of reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of the reactants, as well as to the temperature. Greater surface areas and addition of catalysts also increase the rate of chemical reactions.…

The true rate constant for the overall reaction, k, does not depend on hydroxide’s concentration and will remain constant regardless of the concentration. On the contrary, the rate constant is dependent on temperature; therefore, the temperature must be kept the same throughout the experiment. The observed rate constant and true rate constant had units of s^(-1) and M^(-1) s^(-1), respectively. The units for both the observed rate constant and true rate constant were found with the use of equation 8 and 9. (With the knowledge obtained that crystal violet is a first order reaction and the accepted value of “one” for y, making hydroxide a first order reaction, as…

This investigation will show the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction. The Berocca tablet was reacted with hot water (47oC) and then with cold water (20oC). In the hypothesis, it was predicted that the temperature will be inverse proportional to the time Berocca tablet reacts with water to produce 50ml of carbon dioxide gas. Through the result table, we can see that the hypothesis is supported and it was correct. In the conclusion, it was shown that the temperature has the ability to speed up or give the particles more energy and therefore effect the rate of reaction.…
