That comment recieved a 'Open this door right now or else' with such a tone even Caroline knew to stop. And with that, the door was opened. Caroline's father was awestruck at the mess he saw before him. The entire bathroom floor was covered with at least 27 Dresses of Caroline and her mother's. The bathroom mirror was covered in such a thick layer of sticky Hairspray, that Caroline's father couldn't even see how red his face was with anger. And when he went to pick up his daughter, his feet sloshed in Oceans of some sort of liquid that he then realized covered the entire floor; bleach. According to Caroline she had been trying to clean by wetting the floor with some bottle of something she saw her mother use and mop it up with towels. With many variations of fantasies, "Happily ever after" is reoccurring in every fairy tale. "Cinderella" by Anne Sexton is a different variation of the classic tale. The author sets up her version of Cinderella with four anecdotes sharing how others can go from poverty to riches or gritty reality to fantasy. Sexton changes her happily ever after ending by satirizing the message the story gives. By doing so, Sexton would like the reader to know the difference between a fairy tale and reality. Anne Sexton deconstructs the ending of her retold fairy tale by using sarcasm to change the reader's expectations of the story and myth.…

The narrator states, “Everything about her had two sides to it, one for home and one for anywhere that was not home: her walk that could be childlike and bobbing, or languid enough to make anyone think she was hearing music in her head, her mouth which was pale and smirking most of the time, but bright and pink on these evenings out, and her laugh which was cynical and drawling at home – ‘Ha, ha, very funny’ – but high-pitched and nervous anywhere else, like the jingling of the charms on her bracelet” explains her inner turmoil of an adolescent growing into a woman (Oates 422). While at home, Connie wanted to still be seen as a child, but outside of her family’s eyes, she sought to be sexually desired and popular. In order to keep these two worlds separate, Connie constantly lies to her mother about her whereabouts and who she is spending time with. Connie and her friends are dropped off at the mall and then wander to a nearby hangout spot…

As she was born, she bore death. The child came in the recesses of a dull and barren winter, on a night that had been so cold that it felt hollow, like a jagged hole bitten out of the earth. The queen mother had died just hours after the birth—a fever, so they claimed, no doubt brought on by the miserable chill of the season. The sickness quickly spread to the other wet-nurses and servants—she passed from hand to hand in a succession of fleeting maternity, leaving her swaddled in mourning clothes. They preferred to keep the child covered, for even a fleeting glance of her chilled milk-white skin and blood stained lips created a deathly shiver.…
