I believe this movie gives hope to many lives, as it delivers a clear message to the society that anyone can fulfill their dream with a determined will.
Chris Gardner (Will Smith) is a salesman and invests his entire life savings in portable bone-density scanners. He demonstrates them to doctors and tries to sell them. While he is able to sell most of them, the time lag between the sales and his growing financial demands enrage his already bitter and alienated wife Linda (Thandie Newton), who works as a hotel maid. The lack of a stable financial state increasingly erodes their marriage, in spite of them caring for their five-year old son, Christopher (Jaden Smith).
In summary, Chris Gardner is man who’s financially unstable and has a broken marriage, but even so, he doesn’t lose hope and deals with the situation but can’t help to separate from his wife for that’s what she desires.
As a young boy, Chris only got to know his father when he was 28 and from this, he promised himself that the same thing would never happen to his son. He understood the fact that love and support was needed in the up bringing of a child as it shapes and molds one into becoming who they’re going to be in the future. With this, he insisted he take Christopher with him as believed that his wife wasn’t capable of giving him the love and support he could give.
As a husband comparing to how Chris is as a father, Chris is a better father than he is as a husband. In Linda’s situation, most say she’s heartless for giving up on her family but as a person sharing the same gender, I can understand how hard it is for a woman to deal with emotions. Every woman wants to be treated in the best way possible, to live luxuriously and to have not to worry about financial problems but with a bankrupt husband, Linda is certainly not living the good life she wants.
