The Pros And Cons Of Stricter Gun Control Laws
The U.S. has been in a hot debate over a tough issue for hundreds of years now. The subject of that debate is gun control laws. With mass murders and break-ins happening all over America it brings up two groups of people. One group believes taking away the guns will solve the problem. I believe, along with lots of other people, that taking away the guns will not solve the problem. We need to protect our Second Amendment, as well as ourselves, and stick to our guns.

Stricter gun laws should not be put in place because people feel safer owning a gun. Since it is impossible for our government to protect every family from every break in or every assault, it is necessary to own a gun. Even walking around on the street with a concealed carry firearm would make anyone feel safer. In fact, (1) states that implemented "shall-issue" concealed carry laws reduced murders by 8.5%. So not only does it make you feel protected, it also gives criminals a reason to not go after you. This is just one of the many reasons why more strict gun control laws would not be the best idea. …show more content…
(2) Federal law already prohibits certain people from owning firearms: those with certain kinds of criminal records or mental illness; drug addicts; immigrants without legal status; veterans who left the military with a dishonorable discharge; and anyone with a permanent restraining order keeping them from a partner or a partner’s children. So with this already in action, do we really need more gun control? Now we are discussing needing a background check on every person and taking away a big portion of guns, but clearly, we won’t be needing
