The Pros And Cons Of Honor Codes
An honor code is established in campuses to prevent students from cheating, stealing, and/or plagiarizing. The consequences are different for every campus, and here at Lopez Early College High School the penalty is for any of the above in nothing. In order for the honor code to function the students need to cooperate and it has to be enforced. At Lopez ECHS the students don’t cooperate, it is not enforced, and the punishments are not delivered. Therefore, rendering the honor code counterproductive and in need of elimination. “Codes don’t always work” because the student cooperation in one of the vital components of the honor code (McCabe). Based on research done by students, only “eight percent” of students “would report a fellow [classmate]
