Although I don’t agree with most forms of censorship, I feel as if it is important in certain situations. For instance, television must be censored because all age groups watch it, and it influences younger children’s behavior because they have seen it on television. Not to mention anyone at any time can watch TV. Whereas censoring books is completely different. The reader has the option to read the book, making the author not reliable. Not just any age group can pick up a book and begin to read the content. But a six-month-old baby can sit in front of a television and be influenced by the action of a criminal. Certain things influence certain age groups and I feel as if books shouldn’t be responsible. You have to actually read a book; you cannot just sit and watch the pages. I feel as if censorship should appeal to only things that require it, and in my opinion, books do not require censorship.…
Most Christians think censorship is a good thing on the whole. It helps uphold high moral standards e.g. restricts access to pornography and bad language. It also can restrict people sharing prejudice against others.…
Censorship is supposedly done for the good of the people. Such as today, we see obscene material censored from our public in television. We can easily brainstorm numerous reasons for why it's appropriate to maintain this procedure, it promotes the decency in people or at least, that is what we see. However, just because something is censored doesn't mean it's done for all the right reasons. Just as there are good consequences for censorship, we may see negative outcomes. In Fahrenheit 451, we read plenty of negative outcomes. It led to the illegal behavior of Guy Montag into pursuing books, going against his job's purpose and murdering his boss.…
For the past twenty or so years information has largely been stored in digital form, providing the current generation of digital natives with access to more and more information in recent years. With this new flow of information available to the public has come increased censoring by the government. However, this is not a new issue as some might believe. Since the first primitive government was established information has been shielded and manipulated from the every day citizens of the world by those in power. The cause fought against information censorship enjoys the same past. For as long as information has been censored there have been those who have fought against it (Newth, 2010). This issue has arisen particularly in the United States, as some believe access to any information that exists is a right protected by the Constitution.…
Wesley Scroggins states in the article “Scroggins: Filthy books demeaning to Republic education”, “In high school English classes, children are required to read and view material that should be classified as soft pornography”(Springfield News- Leader). He then states that Speak should not be allowed in English classes because it is inappropriate for teenagers to be reading by viewing soft pornography. Laurie Halse Anderson states within her essay “A Comment About Censorship”, “Reading and discussing books is one of the most effective ways to get teens to think through and learn about the challenges of adolescence.” This shows that Anderson disagrees with Scroggins and has completely different views and opinions on how the book is perceived. In order to show society why she views her novel in her perspective, she wrote “A Comment About Censorship”.…
Censorship of books does not have any beneficial qualities. Many parents support censorship in schools to regulate what books their children have access to. What they do not understand is that not all parents believe in their specific views. Topics and material that one parent may find offensive and inappropriate may be completely acceptable to another (Swanson). The decision whether or not to read a book should be made individually, not by any single person or small group of people. In addition, the required reading in many school curriculums teaches not only academic lessons, but also life lessons that cannot be taught anywhere else. Classic novels such as Of Mice and Men, The Catcher in the Rye, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are constantly challenged (Manzo). The educational and beneficial content in each of these stories definitely outweighs the few negative aspects. The responsibility of deciding what books are appropriate lies in the hands of parents, not censors.…
Censorship is considered as objectionable, damaging and delicate. It is the act or practice to censor inappropriate things in communication speeches or anything that should not be showed in public. We do censorship to hide things that we do not want to show it to kids or it seems to contain too much adultery. Although parents try to hide censored things from their children, but they could still see it anywhere, any place that people would do it. Censorship can control the morality but might not be fully controlled it. Censorship as being said, cannot control all of what television or other social medias show to children. It can contain inappropriate things and vulgar content that have negative effects on a child.…
“In 2001, the International Telecommunication Union calculated that, approximately 2.3 billion people had internet access at the end of that year. Since then, the percentage of people using the internet around the world has continued to grow” (Li 2). Censoring the internet has been a hot topic for quite a while now. Many people believe that censoring the web isn’t a good thing because of certain laws and rights we have as citizens. The internet has some cons but it also has many pros. The downside of the censorship is that the truth is blocked out and it violates our freedom of speech. On the other hand, censorship of the internet can reduce the numbers or even stop human trafficking, prevent identity theft, stop cyber bullying and so much…
Writers in the “censorship is a must” perspective believes that censorship is important for the general public. Specifically, these writers believe that whoever is in the know must not tell the whole truth to others. People would surely go crazy and should not be allowed to read just any piece of literature. Also, in that respect, not just any piece of literature should be published and writers themselves should be censored, according to this perspective.…
The Internet is an amazing place where people can communicate, transfer and research information, and find entertainment sites. It also allows freedoms that major media enterprises did not have. The concern with the Internet is it contains sites that are not appropriate for children. Some people believe the Internet should be free from censorship while other argue the Internet should be controlled.…
Censorship protects our children from seeing what could possibly damage them mentally and keeps things that should not be seen in public to stay in the shadows. Many people hate censorship because they think it takes away their freedom of speech. It doesn’t because as long as the people don’t say things that should be said they won’t be censored. Censorship stops things from being seen that shouldn’t be. Censorship is a necessity for the new…
The Censorship in the American Society Jennifer Stern ENC 1102 Essay 1 6 February, 1997 As society emerges into the twenty-first century, control amongst the people is still evident in the actions sought by both houses of Congress. Individuals, in many cultures, are being sheltered from the controversial issues. By suppressing ideas or themes of materials in which a person does not agree, portrays a false atmosphere of society. When the Congress feels that people do not have the ability to form decisions for themselves, this is where the censorship begins.…

The main reason censorship is a negative thing is the first amendment. The first amendment gurantees all Americans the right to freedom of speech, religion, press, and to assemble. Banning certain books…
The first amendment: freedom of speech is violated with censorship. In the ALA Library Bill of Rights, parents, and only parents, have the right to prohibit or control what their children read. Freedom of expression and of opinion is for everyone, not just for the people that the majority thinks are right. In 1953, Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas said, “Restriction of free thought and free speech is the most dangerous of all subversions. It is the one un-American act that could easily defeat us,”(Quotations: First Amendment, Censorship…). This shows that even the government can see the harmful effects of book banning. Furthermore, “the school alone has the final say in what books are appropriate for the children under its care to read,…
