Correctional Health Care, Correctional Education, and Correctional Sex Offender Programs are just a few practices to name. Correctional Mental Health is one practice that will be discussed in depth in this case study. Mental Health alone includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It too helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood. Mental Health in corrections is a very affective issue that is steadily growing within the correctional system. In this essay, I will provide a description of the program, the elements that lead to the success of the program, and the program structure and design that provide for an effective and successful correctional…
In light of several tragic events leading to innocent victims of sex offenses, namely that of Megan Kanka, laws mutually known as Megan’s Laws have been established mandating sex offenders to register their locations of residence and employment to alert those in the vicinity to exercise caution. While these laws have been known to generate awareness of sex offenders, they also have been known to cause more harm than good. The laws allow for public roasting of the sex offenders, deterring them from moving on and somewhat enabling them to commit a crime again. Not to mention the costs associated with these laws are quite steep, although it is not possible to put a price on one less victim of a sexual offense.…
One emergent sub-theme to arise for all participants was the importance and significance of the connection between working with both victims and sex offenders, as they believed it provided a true representation and an overall interconnecting picture, “you get the balance, you get the full sort of picture or you get the full experience or impact from both parties so you don’t become too skewed in a way”.…

The following annotated bibliography provides peer reviewed articles surrounding the topic of juvenile sex offenders (JSO) and treatment to reduce recidivism rates. The terms juvenile sex offender and adolescent sex offenders (ASO) are used interchangeably. The treatment provided below is of Multisystemic Therapy (MST). MST is a family focused, community-based treatment that literature has proven to be significantly effective. The articles below will touch upon the efficacy of MST on JSO’s and nonsexual juvenile offenders, advantages and disadvantages of MST, and the implications on practice. The undersigned has significant interest in this population due to society’s assumptions that this population is specialized and requires specialized…
With Deontologist view that it is their job to study and do their duty. Problems that they run into are not wanting to deal with sex offenders. Their goal needs to be that a sex offender is under watch, and it would be officer’s job to protect the community. An ethical perspective would be that are duty is to serve and protect even though at times you don’t feel like it you still have to what is best for the people in the community by protecting them, and monitoring sex offenders. We know that a deontologist view is to know the intent of the action. As a job we know that we must publish the names and addresses of were registration sex offenders live. It is in our duty to be ethical and judge the morality of an action. We know that they have…

I have chosen to do my final project writing assignment on female offenders. Today, females are the fastest growing offenders of the prison population. Some of the attributing factors to this increase in female prison population is an increase in violent behavior by females, increased substance abuse and an increased awareness by law enforcement toward female offenders. Female offenders may have many differences from male offenders in their risks and needs while in the system however they share similar demographic characteristics as incarcerated males. Female and male offenders are both primarily from a lower social and economic status, they lack in education, have poor employment history and are comprised of mostly minorities. Some more important characteristics of female offenders are they were most likely involved in a previous relationship with their victims and or committed crimes with or at the demand of males.…
A sex offender’s name should be made public for many reasons. Knowing there’s an offender in your neighborhood creates a sense of awareness. Studies have shown by The Department of Justice show that more than likely offenders will become repeat offenders. If offenders are likely to become repeat offenders then parents have reason to believe their child could be next. It’s common for victims of sexual assault to wait some time before telling someone. When the person was…

The sex offender registry has been a topic of debates and formal studies since the Minnesota Sex Offender Registration Act was first passed in 1991 (Stevens, n.d.). The use of the sex offender registry has been saving lives of potential victims. Before the registry was enacted, sex offenders who lived in their neighborhood victimized adults and children and no one knew about their prior criminal history. In very public cases, it was brought to light that children were being abducted, sexually assaulted, and finally murdered by sex offenders that should have been registered. Those children could have been kept safe and may still be alive today if the public knew the information about their attackers. Also the surviving victims of sexual abuse…
Sex offender registration was largely brought out as a means of increasing public awareness of sex offenders to support community safety. According to Sage Journals (2005), records of 121 registered sex offenders in Kentucky showed that, “social stigmatization, loss of relationships, employment, and housing, and both verbal and physical assaults are experienced by a significant minority of registered sex offenders." Sex offender registration is publicly accessible nationwide, basically for the safety and cognizance of those living in the same community. So now these sex offenders have a mark on their heads, and I could only image how damaging that can be to a person who may want to move on or just lay low. Another example would be the collateral consequences of incarceration alone. There are many states that where employment opportunities for people who have been behind bars are extremely limited. Most states authorize employers to deny jobs to anyone with a criminal record, despite how much time has elapsed since, or the individual's work background or even personal circumstances. For some locations someone doesn’t even need to be convicted to suffer from collateral…
Sexual violence, especially involving small children, is a horrible crime and the worst nightmare of every parent. While every personal story of such violations is heart-breaking, it is important to examine how the entire American public is affected by inconsistent political action in defining sexual offences. Hence, in order to approach the dilemma that faces many individuals about what defines a sexual offender, it is essential that we examine the current sex offender law definitions and the reform needed to resolve the challenges of proper sex offender classification.…
“Sex offenders are the scourge of modern America, the ‘irredeemable monsters’ who prey on the innocent” (Logan, 1999, p.1167). The colossal number of sex crimes is rapidly expanding across the United States and with it a wake of innocent victims. This expansion and increased victimization called for reform and demanded protection for the innocent. This protection came in the form of a new criminal justice policy, the sex offender registration.…
