The Power Of Prayer

October 30, 2014 Where’s God?

What has happened to this country’s generation? We used to be a country where you could go out and say “Hey I am a Christian and I am proud of it.” Now we can’t even go into schools and pray or preach a sermon in church without someone getting butt hurt and wanting to file a lawsuit. We need to take a stand and say “Hey I am a Christian and I am still here and I am proud!” In 2006 President Obama gave a speech saying and I quote “Moreover, given the increasing diversity of America's population, the dangers of sectarianism have never been greater. Whatever we once were, we are no longer just a Christian nation; we are also a Jewish nation, a Muslim nation, a Buddhist nation, a Hindu nation, and a nation of nonbelievers.” Now for me I believe that there are other religions such as those listed above, but what I do not believe is the we are not a Christian Country. Now that’s not U.S. Supreme Court meant when, in Church of the Holy Trinity v. United States, 143 U.S. 437 (1892), they held that “this is a Christian nation.” They meant that this nation was founded on biblical principles, and that those who brought these biblical principles to this land and who implemented those principles in our system of government were for the most part professing Christians who were actively involved with Christian churches

In conclusion, some people do think that the Declaration of Independence declares that the United States is built under Christianity because it mentions Nature’s God and Creator a few times in the document. The Nature’s God is going back to the Divine Right during the Enlightenment period. These are barely compatible with Christianity. When Thomas Jefferson mentions creator he might not even be talking about god. No one will ever know unless they go back to the 18th century and go back when they first wrote this…

The United States was not founded upon the principles of the Christian religion. The Declaration of Independence clearly states that the Colonies are separating from British rule because of their unjust and unfair actions towards the Colonies. The Constitution and the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom express how religion is free to choose and not enforced in public office. The United States was established because the people wanted to live under better conditions and constitute their own laws.…

In the United States everyone is supposed to have equality and freedom, but that is not the case. The government is becoming more and more influenced by Christianity everyday. Due to this, individual rights and freedoms are being taken away without logical reason or people even knowing. The American people and the American Christian people are allowing these things to happen because the government backs up what they do with reason of Christianity. Rights such as abortion and same sex marriages are being questioned based on religion. Are own President Bush according to the Montana News Association thinks that "All people worship the same God; they just have different ways to come to him" (One World Religion in U.S. Government). Even though, most people do feel comfortable knowing the president's religion, it does not affect the nation or side tracks, the reason the U.S. is what it is today. For example, "... half of all American adults say that it's important for a president to share their religious belief(Masci)." This evidence provides readers with what most Americans feel a president should share with a country. However, this is all, the author really talks about religion and not anything else about leadership or accomplishments done by former presidents. For example, "It is true thus far, overwhelming, this country has predominately Christian presidents(Universal Life Church Monastery)," but then later on states, "the Government of the United States of America is not of any sense founded on the Christian religion.(Universal Life Church Monastery)" From the previous two quotes provided supports the claim that even though there have been dominantly more Christian president that does not mean that our government is build not of of specifically Christianity, but any…

The first amendment to the United States Constitution guarantees citizens their right to practice any religion they wish without persecution today, but many years ago when this country was made up of only 13 colonies on the east coast, that was often times not the case. It’s surprising how many were not tolerant of religions different from their own because the main reason why people fled to America was to escape religious persecution. In Britain, the Anglican Church ruled over the country as there was no separation of church and state. Anyone who believed different from the Church was punished severely, so many traveled to America to seek refuge. Colonies were established with…

While the challenge of summarizing the effects of church-state relations in America is no small task, it is possible to identify many of the elements collected from history that advanced religious freedom in America. First, the American population consisted of a mix of religions, cultures, languages, and classes. Each religious group believed their ways were the right ways and they exhibited little toleration for others, making an agreement on one established church impossible. Second, what these groups did have in common was their search for freedom to practice their beliefs without persecution, their search for wealth,…

    Christian Nation Myth

The myth of the United States of America having been founded as a Christian nation has long been circulated throughout our country’s history. Christian historians were the first to put forth this narrative and in today’s world, website writers and editors have taken up the cause. On the website, WhatChristiansWanttoKnow.com, Robert Driskell peddles the myth in an article entitled, “Was the United States of America Founded As A Christian Nation? A Look at the Facts.” Driskell quotes a number of Founding Fathers out of context and uses them as evidence for a Christian nation as well as uses the first amendment to claim that the Constitution did not intend for a strict separation between Church and State.…

Again this comes from years of twisting and turning of words and arguments as to the intent of the framers. The issue stems from the interpretation of the wording “Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion”. Some people say that this means that no laws will be made that respects any religion over another, while others argue that the intent of the framers was to prohibit the government from establishing laws that set up one religious point of view as the official religion such as they experienced in England. Regardless of what position people take, the Supreme Court has ruled that there shall be no law that respects one religion over another. This decision affirmed the idea of separation of church and state. In response to this ruling, it has become illegal to display the Ten Commandments in public buildings because this is considered the foundation on which Christianity and Judaism was founded. According to the Supreme Court this display violates the First Amendment rights of those citizens who are not Christians or Jews to have no official religion. Christians argue that while they believe that the Ten Commandments were given to the people by God as a way to self govern themselves according to His will, they also believe that these are good rules for anyone to follow regardless of their religious position and that by removing these laws of God from publicly owned property, it violates the Christians right to freedom of…

The United States of America is the land of the free and home of the brave. Something happened to change that; the greatest nation on earth is falling. America is now the land of slaves and home of the cowardly. As history tells time and time again that nations fall when they lose focus on God. America has forsaken its Savior, King, and God by opening the door for Satan to rule and reign supreme. America took God out of politics, schools, and The Constitution. This once great country was founded on God and His word. Politicians are corrupt as well as judges; America's legal system is all screwed up. Christians cannot uphold their beliefs without facing jail time and losing their jobs. Teachers cannot even teach anything in the bible without…

After living in such a different environment for a while, I have begun to wonder why different areas of the same country are drastically different. Looking at different areas of research, I began to notice a trend. The states included in the south have a lot higher percentage of churchgoers. In fact a Gallup poll reported, “Christians -- the largest religious group in the country today -- are heavily concentrated in the South and nearby states, while constituting only a minority of residents of Northeastern states, and of many Middle Atlantic and Western states.” “Americans with no religious identity at all tend to be found most frequently in the…

I have been hearing things like this now for close on to two decades now. If you do not belong to the Christian religion you are essentially a second class citizen, not good enough to live in society with everyone else because I have different beliefs. I recently had a person I considered a friend tell me that they could no longer be a friend with me because I was not Christian, and another that I was in a relationship with would no longer even talk to me because her church leader told her that it was a sin to associate with someone on a personal basis if they are not Christian. No religion that is not of Judaic origin attempts to tell people that because they are of a different religion. This is I believe symptomatic of a particular disease that is rampant throughout American culture, Xenophobia. We as a culture have come in many ways to reject anything that is different from our own beliefs and values, though we are a country that was founded, and developed, through those very differences. The United States as a country is supposed to hold freedom, including freedom of religion, and the pursuit of happiness as one of our highest ideas, but when it comes to practicing these ideas, we tend to fall short.…
