The Pilot Episode Summary

The Pilot episode starts off with Dr. Lightman showing a presentation over micro-expressions that are caused naturally when lying. He is trying to explain that most people do not speak with words but with their body. The man that is being interviewed shows happiness when the FBI guesses the wrong location to investigate. He then flashes a sign of scorn across his face when Dr. Lightman confronts him about the correct location he is planning on attacking. Dr. Lightman knows he is showing scorn from his upper lip rising, his nose snarling, and his teeth slightly showing. Dr. Lightman and Dr. Foster are asked to investigate a murder of a teacher who’s killer is said to be a student, James. Dr. Lightman first asked James questions. He started off with questions to get a basis to read him, Lightman mainly focused on his eyes. He then started asking questions about the day of the murder and what he knew happened. James said he was there when the police showed up but insisted that he did not kill his teacher.
Lightman and his team reviewed the film from the investigation with James he saw that James showed sadness and shame. James showed sadness in the corner of his lips and his drooping eyelids. They also realized that he has some sort of arousal from his teacher. Come to find out he was taken photographs when he realized she had been murdered. The Lightman Group investigated or “studied” several other people. They eventually turned their attention to the school principle who was always tense when they were around. He was also showing a sign of fear when he was confronted about a picture. Dr. Lightman used some deception himself to get the true confession but in the end the principle went to jail for murder and James was
