The Patriot
Patriot Throughout many decades history has been learned by reading books and listening to past experiences or stories. Although many still use standard history books, it seem fair to say that most people now a days are getting their history, or what they think is history from movies. It is an unavoidable phenomenon now that televised entertainment is such a big thing. More and more people watch Television so why not put some education into it. Many movies don't have an accurate explanation, or if not they fantasies the history. A man by the name Francis Bacon said, "that history makes men wise. It follows that bad history, trivialized history, history distorted and sensationalized, can make them foolish."

In the movie the Patriot, they do depict some historical events that are true, but they also happen to make up things along the way. Most directors probably do this to entertain the crowd and keep the movie interesting. As shown in The Patriot, Mel Gibson in which plays Benjamin Martin, a farmer South Carolina, and a hero of the French and Indian war. He is a father that has seven children. His oldest Gabriel joined the war against the British after his father told him not to. He served for two years as when he returned he was seriously injured.

General Cornwall demanded Gabriel to be arrested. Then a fight was caused in Benjamin's crops causing the death of one of his children and the capturing of his son Gabriel. Gabriel was demanded to be hanged but his father was able to rescue him.

The movie really doesn't talk to much about actual historic facts, it just changes the events into its own scenery. The mov

She argues about disadvantages of showing films in history class. She claims that since these kinds…

As exciting as the sound of bugle calls us to arms, the Patriot, directed by Roland Emmerich, earns people’s hearts by its attractive and enthralling plot of the epic of a South Carolinian planter and widower Benjamin Martin(played by Mel Gibson) fighting the ruthless and brutal British dragoon captain called William Tavington(played by Jason Isaacs). A father of seven children, Martin is one of the British army during the French-Indian War, but with the tension evoked between America and Britain, and the unfortunate deaths of his two sons, Martin is determined to fight a bloody battle against the British in American Revolution. In general, the movie is attractive and heart-stirring, yet the actions of characters are so inaccurate, making the viewers to experience the illogical exaggeration combined with excitement.…

The film The Patriot is not historically accurate. In fact, it is doubtful if the purpose of the film was to be historically accurate. It is most likely it was for sheer entertainment. Nevertheless, the film did not portray British soldiers, the way people saluted one another and the protagonist Benjamin Martin accurately. For these reasons is why it remains impossible to call it historically…

In “The Patriot”, the tactics of war used by the British Army differ significantly from those used by the American rebels. The British based war and victory on honor. If a battle is not won properly, it might as well have not been won at all. Benjamin Martin, the leader of the rebels, identifies the pride of the British as their weakness. The American rebels based war on victory itself and concentrated their efforts in simply defeating the British. Their sole objective is to win; they did not have the luxury of being “civil” in their war tactics. This contrast is shown very well in several scenes from the movie.…

Some years later, Charleston falls to the British and a wounded Gabriel returns home carrying dispatches. The Martins care for both British and American wounded from the nearby battle, before British Dragoons led by a ruthless Colonel William Tavington arrive and arrest Gabriel. When Benjamin's young son Thomas tries to free Gabriel, he is shot and killed by Tavington, who orders the Martins' house burned and wounded American regulars executed. After the British leave, Benjamin gives his next two eldest sons muskets and they ambush the British unit escorting a shackled Gabriel. Benjamin skillfully, yet brutally, kills many soldiers with his tomahawk. A British survivor tells Tavington of an almost unseen man rapidly killing the soldiers, earning Benjamin the moniker of the "Ghost". Benjamin and Gabriel resolve to fight the British, leaving the younger children in the care of Benjamin's sister-in-law, Charlotte. On their way to the Continental Army's camp, they witness the southern Continental Army under General Horatio Gates engaging the British Army. Having served with the British earlier in his life, Benjamin knows going muzzle to muzzle with the British is foolhardy. Sure enough, the Continentals are easily defeated and flee in disarray.…

History books today are flooded with pointless tasks for memorization, which is just an easy fix to get students a good grade on a test, without them actually retaining the information in the chapter. Not being properly educated on past events gives the future more opportunity for mistakes, considering they will not be able to compare past and present problems in hopes to not make the same mistakes again. It is easy for students to brush off this information because it is taught in such a matter of fact sort of way, not showing any passion, just information does not make a person interested in a subject. When a student can have actual feelings regarding an event, that is when it sticks. When they can really understand what is going on, through real stories and encounters, they have a more thorough understanding of the world and are better prepared to participate in…

For example world war 2 and the Holocaust. I feel learning about these things and visiting a Holocaust museum was very impacting but help me grow as a student by expanding my knowledge. For starters, before learning about World War 2, I had no idea why Hitler had so much hate towards the jews and why he wanted to exterminate a whole race. Now, I understand he was a soldier in world war one and was upset about the Treaty of Versaille and how Germany was in serious debt. He believed that the Aryan race was superior and wanted to take over Europe. It was also shocking how Hitler manipulated the minds of germans and wanted to kill and wipe out an entire race. Hitler had a way with words most these soldier had families after they would kill human beings they’d go to there families later and act as if nothing happened. The fact that 11,000 people were killed and 6,000 were jews is mind blowing. German Nazi’s would make the jews dig there holes and then shoot them and they'd fall right into the whole. When they saw this wasn’t being efficient enough they moved on to gassing the people. Many children died innocent children. Hitler actually got really far with taking over Europe and parts of Africa before the USA, Great Britain and the Soviet Union interfered So when we visit the museum of tolerance it really had an impact on the way i think and it seemed more real to me having more background information. It’s important to expand your knowledge on things like this so we prevent history from repeating…

    False Events In Hollywood

In my opinion, if your going to make a movie that is based on someting that happened in reality, you must atleast create scenes that really happened in real life and it must also be detailed. Sometimes the directors will find trouble on recreating some scenes. Because probabley they don't have enough information or details of some events that happened in real life and at this point they start to make some false events to make the movie longer and more exciting for the audeince. Plus to get alot of profit from the movie, according to how many tickets have sold in the box office. For me and for some people they won't have any problem if hollywood distort history, but for others they won't agree on what they do to history, as they think it is another way of spreading false information for a specific topic or movie that is based on a true story.…
