The past and the present

The past and the present Our life is like a triangle, past, present, future is like three different vertices in one triangle. Each of them has their own world but they are interknitted by each other. Memory and physical world is a pair of intriguing words which effect each other. Our present is consist of many pieces of the past and we can learn lessons from the experience of the past to affect the present life. Thus, how to deal with the relationship between memory and physical world has a great influence on our life. After I read the cookie by Marcel Proust and Story Water by Rumi, I through comparing this two articles, I find some agreement and disagreement. And this helps me figure out the relationship between memory and reality, also it let me know what is the best way to face the past and what can I learn from the past. Memory is more like a concept in your mind. When you recall your memory it won’t suddenly appear in front of you and let you touch it and feel it. But actually recall memory is inherent. So, how we transfer from the physical world to the memory? Both the cookie by Marcel Proust and Story Water by Rumi gives me the same answer: We need intermediaries. The cookie talks about how the author call out his memory through the taste of a cup of tea, which reminds him all the childhood memory in his hometown. Story Water is a poem which using many metaphor and simile, gives a direction to the readers how to call out the memory In Story Water, it said, “Water, stories, the body, all the things we do, are mediums that hide and show what’s hidden.” In previous, Rumi indicated that story like a water to heat for our bath, people take messages between fire and the skin; story connected the past and the present; people need to walk into a garden in order to know the beauty. This shows every time we want to get messages from the past, we need a middle person to translate. In
