The West needed this because they had limited mobility to trade and move around. The West needs this because they need a way of transportation. I know they needed transportation because theirs were very limited as page four tells us “The West had no large cities and no major highways…its main arteries of transportation were the mighty rivers.” The only way they got around was using the rivers. Uniform currency (money of equal value) in all the states, controlled by wealthy bankers?
The North will need this because all the banks are in the North. They will need this because this way they will get all the money and the people have to come to the North in order to get it. The banks will have the money which will help the North’s economy tremendously because they could use that money to build railroads or other big industries that will benefit them. That is why the North will need all the currency to be the same in all the states.
d. Free land for all who want it?
The South will need this because they needed more new land so that they could continue to make cotton and tobacco since that was the main source of their economy’s money and wealth. They needed more land because as page 3 tells us “Cotton and tobacco cultivation tended to wear out the soil to such an extent…because of their crops’ depletion of the soil, planters constantly needed virgin lands in large tracts to begin new plantations.” The South needed to have free new land in order to keep their economy going. The way I see it in my opinion I think they split for the freedom of slaves, but also the power between the states and the federal government. It think they split because of the slaves because some people wanted to keep slaves while the others wanted to free them. We could also see the spark of the war once they saw Abraham Lincoln become president since he was anti-slavery. They also split because they were arguing about who should have more power the states or the federal government. The people were really against this because some wanted the states to keep the power because they were scared of the federal government of becoming too strong in power.
