The Nice Guys Essay
The Nice Guys, the most recent project released by Iron Man 3 director Shane Black, is the story of the rugged hitman Jackson Healy (Russell Crowe) and the ever-sleazy detective Holland March (Ryan Gosling).
The mismatched pair go looking for Amelia, a girl who’s gone missing after the adult film star, “Misty Mountains” dies due to mysterious circumstances. Gosling is first introduced with a hangover, lying in his bathtub, fully clothed with the words “you’ll never be happy again” written on his hand.
Meanwhile, our second hero is beating up a man caught fooling around with his client’s underage daughter. He then rides over to Gosling’s house and breaks his arm as a warning to stop looking for Amelia. Throughout the movie, this duo hit the road meeting, foul-mouthed kids, protestors, a hit man named john boy, and a 15-year-old girl. The tone of the movie is set immediately with the classic song “Papa Was a Rolling Stone” with a title card reminiscent of a neon sign from the 70’s. …show more content…
