Alcohol is used by at least 2 billion people across the world. It is affecting over 76 million people. Lives are lost due to alcohol, it is 3.2% cause of deaths in the world. People all over the world are consuming it whether it is a simple drink at a party or a daily bottle. You will encounter many people who consume alcohol in your life. People will drink for fun while some others will drink to get things off their minds and there are the ones have an addiction to alcohol and have a problem. Alcohol is considered a depressant since people drink it to feel better. Alcohol is not only hurting the consumer but it is always a danger to other people in the world because of the consumer many lives are lost because of alcoholic as well. As of 2014 9,967 people were killed due to drunk driving crashes. Drunk driving is a very serious problem in our society today. You could be simply leaving a friends house driving home and next thing you know your life will be over due to a driver who had a couple of drinks. Alcohol impairs your ability to make decisions especially behind the wheel. It changes your judgement and as well as your reaction time. You may think you are capable of driving but in reality you are putting yourself in danger as well as other people who share the road with you , everyone involved in the accident could lose their lives as well as you or you can cause damage and live full of regret just because you couldn't make the right choices. It is advised that instead of drinking and driving you should have a person who hasn't been drinking drive or call a cab

This amounts to one death every 51 minutes. The annual cost of alcohol-related crashes totals more than $59 billion” (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration 1). The fact that so many people die every day in the United States from alcohol related accidents is absolutely ridiculous. The stories are endless. In Steve Schmadeke’s article, “Man gets 15 years in DUI accident that killed mother, son” He talks about the terrible tragedy that ended two innocent lives. Schmadeke states, “A speeding, unlicensed driver who crashed into another car on the Northwest Side, killing a mother and her teenage son and injuring three other children, was sentenced Monday to 15 years in prison” (Schmadeke 1). Because 37 year old, Richard Strum decided to drive while intoxicated, he took two innocent lives and injured three others. He not only took a mother, but he also took a daughter, sister, and wife. He not only took a son, but he also took a brother, cousin, best friend, student, and ultimately someone who didn’t even have a chance at real life before it was taken away.
