The Myth Of Echo And Narcissus By Thomas Bullfinch
In the myth of Echo and Narcissus as told by Thomas Bullfinch, Echo is a nymph, she is an enchanted creature who dwells in the natural world. Narcissus, excessive admiration of oneself, is a handsome and smug son of a nymph. Echo develops an attraction towards narcissus, but she is not corresponded. And both, Narcissus and Echo, get punished by a curse.
First, Echo tries to help her friends into talking to Hera’s husband without her finding out. Which eventually Hera found out and because of her choice in hurting Hera’s feelings Echo got in trouble for it. Echo didn’t mean to harm anyone. She was just helping them have a bit fun. But sometimes by trying to help other people, we actually harm ourselves. And eventually these bad choices catch …show more content…
Because he never gave anyone the chance to show their feelings he was cursed, and his curse consisted on falling in love with himself. While walking thru a chanted, lonely forest. Narcissus saw the reflection of himself in a crystal clear river. And because of his beautiful locks and handsome features of his face, he fell in love with his reflection. This curse was upon Narcissus because he never learned to have feelings, the only thing he cared about was the external beauty. And not what truly matters, the feelings towards a person. The feeling of loving, and taking care of someone who is not blood related. That regardless of the situation you will always stay with your lover even if it means to have a sacrifice. Narcissus lacked all of the beautiful feelings of loving someone so much it hurt at times. Because of Narcissus decision of being a narcissist, he got what he deserved.
The choices that we make in life will affect us in the near future, just like it did to Echo and Narcissus, whom at the moment didn’t think of the future and decided to be selfish, and not care about other people’s feelings. If we hurt them or not, not caring about the outcome. To leave a happy life we should give everyone a chance to show their true feelings, without someone having to criticize them on how they look. After you grow old. And the beauty fades away, the only thing you have left are your feelings. Nothing else but
